Re: Deco-dive with travel gas, bottom gas and four deco gases

Hi, you always have to select the gases maually, either via the menu or by acknowleding the gas-switch promt, the computer will never decide on its own that you have done a gas switch without you telling the computer. --> This accounts for the calculation of your deco obligation, leading tissue, sup...

Re: Deco-dive with travel gas, bottom gas and four deco gases

Hi, not a direct answer to your questions, but maybe some background information: two calculations run in parallel 1) your actual decompression obligation - this is computed solely from the trajectory of the gasses shown in the lower left of the display. The trajectory will start with the gas tagged...

Hi, you set this time via Menu -> Dive/Deco Setup -> Dive Setup -> Dive Timeout. Range is 1 to 20 mins, default is 5 mins.

Re: Gas density threshold

Hi Michael, thanks for the post and the link to the article! The OSTC also defaults to 5.2 & 6.3 g/l as attention (yellow) & warning (red) threshold. What i was wrong with in my earlier post is that the OSTC only tracks the gas density in CC mode, not in OC. This decision was based on the fa...

Re: Gas density threshold

Hi Michel, you are right, the thresholds are independent of the operating mode. They can be changed, but only with external software (but probably that's not supported yet in subsurface / libdivecomputer etc.). Do you have a source on why OC should be more tolerable than CC? I can't really make my m...

Hi, i actually thought about implementing this, but after a look at wikipedia https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barometrische_H%C3%B6henformel (sorry, german version) it was clear that such an undertaking would consume lots of code space and/or deliver quite unpreceise result due to the various paramete...

Re: "slow ascent" indication

It just means you should ascent slowly as you did a deco dive with mandatoty stops. By no way it implies you did something wrong, it's just a reminder that your tissues are quite loaded and rapid pressure changes should be avoided.

Viele ...

Re: Ceiling on 2nd dive

I don't know how Garmin nor Subsurface handle in detail the end-of-deco detection. My only help i can provide is to suggest to run some dives in the OSTC's build-in simulator and watch the custom view which shows the saturation % (actually it is the supersaturation value of the leading tissue), the ...

Re: Ceiling on 2nd dive

Well, i'm probably at my limits in helping you. I'm not that familir with subsurface, but what puzzles me is 3 things i cannot align: - above you wrote you are doing NDL dives with not stops, - but the OSTC logbook screenshot showes a deco obligation, i.e. it was a deco dive (at least with a GF high...

Re: Ceiling on 2nd dive

I get to believe that there is some misunderstanding somewhere or with something, but currently i have no clue what it is. What do you mean by "the OSTC shows a longer red bar"? Where / what is that bar? What also puzzles me is "the OSTC still has a 5 min stop at 3 m and the @+5 also ...

Re: Ceiling on 2nd dive

Well, for me i still don't get the problem. As harv wrote, when the GF high was set to 65%, the re-calculation of the dives delivered 60 to 64%, and when set to 70% re-calc yielded 64 to 68%. That's a pretty good match, as wrote before, and also as the tissue conditions before the 1st dives are trac...

Re: Ceiling on 2nd dive

Hi, when you set the GF high (GF at the end of the dive, i.e. when reaching the surface) to 65, then "The OSTC is much slower though. It doesn't end the deco until Subsurface reports a surface GF of 60." is exactly what you wanted it to do: bring me to the surface such that i will be at 65...

Re: Charge OSTC 2 from powerbank?

USB2, USB3 - that does not matter as the charger only connects to the 5V lines, not the data lines. Thus it does not do any power protocols but justs draws the current it wants to. So the more dumb the supply, the better.

Re: Sat/desat factors versus GF factors

Hi, both, gradient factors and sat/desat factors, can be used at the same time because they tweak the Bühlmann model at different spots: - The gradient factors move the M-lines, so they interact within the step of transforming current tissue supersaturations into min permissible diving depth ("...

Re: Difference btw Sport, 2 and Plus

The sport has an optimzed electronics and the CPU is run on lower voltage, so its base consumption is lower than with any 2 or sport. But the additional current needed to illuminate the screen scales heavily with the brightness setting and is more or less equal on all models.

Re: OSTC 2 : BO gas requirement

Hi, the B/O calculation is not done when the -B/O gas- alarm is shown, as in this case the OSTC can't find any breathable OC gas to switch to. To have a gas to switch to, the gas needs to fulfill all of the following requirements: - its change depth needs to be >= current depth, - its ppO2 at curren...

Re: OSTC 2 : BO gas requirement

Hi, thanks for your contribution! This is the response from the one who implemented this part of the firmware. At the heart of the BO gas calculation is the same routine that does the OC gas calculation. It scans all activated gases to find the best suited gas for the current depth (and repetitively...
