OSTC Sport gave me a stop on a Non Deco dive at 3m for 3min

Hi. I did a long shallow non deco dive and the computer gave me a 3m/3min stop.

I thought that the last deco stop fires only on deco dives, and that th safety stop is at 5m.

I've attached the dive profile.

Can someone provide an explanation?

Hi,

can you provide your settings, especially GFs and sat/dsat?

Everything was set to default. I just updated the setting to include a deco stop.

I'll post images of my settings in a minute

Edit: I've attached the settings

And the stops settings

So around 5.5m I got a notification for Stop and 2:59 displayed. And it didn't start counting down until I've moved above 4m.

Is it possible that the Safety stop was tiggered after 5m only, and it was active between 5-3m?

On my old computer it would trigger around 6m, and stay until 3m.

maybe that's what I saw.

Edit: after playing around with the planner and simulatior, the thing I got was a safety stop, and that the safety stops start above 5m strict.

Well. This was a nice rubber duck debugging. 😁

The safety stop arms once a depth of 10 meters is crossed and then shows up on reaching 5 meters. It disappears after either 3 minutes or passing 3 meters. These numbers can be changed, but only with external software (i.e. not from within the OSTC menu).

Got it. It confused me as to why didn't it count down when I was at 5.4m, I guess this is more safe way of doing it. I just have to get used to it.

Thanks for the info.

The safest way would be to just SLOWLY ascent on the final, e.g. with 1 meter/minute for the last 5 meters or so. But many divers unfortunately aren't able to do that or were never trained to do that, so the "safety stop" was invented... If you are on air, this stop should be rather shallow in order to be effective. But at sea, swell often becomes uncomfortable at the shallows, so 5 meters became common compromise-practise - and eventually turned from compromise to agencies-enforced law...

safe diving!
Ralph

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

It makes a lot more sense to have the safety stop around 5-3 meters than hovering around 6-5m.

This helped a lot to understand the computer and how to sync it when diving with other people than my dive club.

Hi,

Here's a screenshot of the safety stop and a real deco stop. You can see the difference clearly.

Thanks Matthias,

I saw that the deconstops are displayed numerically compared to the safety stop after doing some simulated deco dives.

I just wanted to confirm that I didn't mess up any settings.
