Hallo,

Die neue Firmware 1.4.7 ist nun veröffentlicht. Es ist die erste stable, die auf dem neuen, kostenfreien GCC Compiler basiert. Dies ermöglicht es uns den OSTC4 zu dem zu machen was er schon immer sein sollte, nämlich ein echter OSTC dessen Quellcode vollständig offen liegt: https://bitbucket.org/heinrichsweikamp/ostc4/wiki/Home

Die Fertigstellung hat so leider wesentlich länger gedauert als geplant, in den letzten Monaten wurden unzählige Stunden Arbeit investiert und mehrere neue Programmierer haben uns hier unterstützt (Hierzu später mehr).

Anleitung zur Installation: https://forum.heinrichsweikamp.com/read.php?7,19186 (Je nach aktueller Version kann es nötig sein, das Update zweimal zu starten. Der OSTC4 gibt dazu nach dem Update nötigenfalls eine Meldung aus. Grund ist, dass auch sehr alte Teile der Firmware wie der Schriftsatz und der Bootloader aktualisiert werden.)

Wegen aktuell noch nicht ganz geklärten Problemen mit der iOS App OSTConf empfehlen wir, das Update mit dem OSTC Companion auf einem MAC oder Windows PC einzuspielen.

Wir empfehlen nach dem Update die Einstellungen durch zu gehen, da evtl. nicht alle Einstellungen von der alten Firmware übernommen werden können.

Folgende Änderungen und Neuerungen gibt es seit der vorherigen V 1.3.5:

NEW: "Saturation" ersetzt "Relative GF" und zeigt den Anteil bis zum aktuellen, sich ergebenden GF hi
CHG: mbar mit hPa im Oberflächenmodus und Logbuch ersetzt
FIX: ZNS hat in der ersten Minute falsche Werte geloggt
FIX: Sprachupdates
FIX: Zeige auch Apnoe oder Gauge im Oberflächenmodus (Nicht nur CCR und OC)
FIX: Einfrieren der Anzeige im Tauchmodus
FIX: In seltenen Fällen hat sich der OSTC4 nicht korrekt abgeschaltet
FIX: Durchschnittstiefe war (minimal) falsch
FIX: Tiefe und Max. Tiefe liefen nicht synchron
CHG: Intensiver quellcode clean-up und review, wechsel auf den GCC Kompiler

Hello,

The new firmware 1.4.7 is now public. This is the first stable release made with the new, free GCC compiler toolchain. This allows us to make the OSTC4 what it was intend to be: An Open Source Diver Computer: https://bitbucket.org/heinrichsweikamp/ostc4/wiki/Home

Finishing this version took longer then expected but in the last few months countless hours of work was done and several new programmers helped us finishing it (More on this later).

(Depending on your current version it may be required to start the update twice. The OSTC4 will show you a message after the update if this is required. Reason is, that this update also updates some older parts of the firmware like the font table and the bootloader).

We recommend to check your settings after the update since not all settings may be copied into the new version.

Because of currently existing issues with the iOS App OSTConf we recommend to install the upgrade with the OSTC Companion on a MAC or Windows PC.

The following changes have been made since V 1.3.5:

FIX: CNS logging had unexpected values in the first minute
FIX: Language updates

FIX: Lags with screen freeze in dive mode fixed
FIX: In rare cases the OSTC4 did not power down correctly for sleep mode
FIX: Average depth was slightly off
FIX: Sync max. Depth and Depth properly
CHG: Intensive code cleanup and review, change to free GCC compiler

FIX: highlight the menu underline correctly on selected state in dive mode

Here's a small follow-up since we already got the first mail from somebody who did not read all of the above B) ...

Depending on the version you had before it might be required to run the update a second time. During this second pass, only the 3rd part is updated (Very quickly).

A successful update is done when you see in SYS2 menu: RTE: 1.7 OS: 1.4.7

In the past I have done several updates that not always went quite well (maybe coincidence with faulty hardware that HW replaced) and last time HW put the 1.3.x beta version on it after which I did not have any problems yet.

How safe is this version? More specifically in the past I had done updates where on several dives everything seemed good, but then all of a sudden the computer would show Please Update RTE followed bij SLEEP just at the beginning of a dive and then the next dive everything could (or could not) be okay again.

This update is absolutely recommended against any other version we have ever published for the OSTC4. So, yes: Please update.

New versions of firmware look good. Updating using IOS app failed to complete correctly several times.I eventually had to resort to a Mac computer. The app versions of the download and installation software for OSTC are not reliable.

I had to start the update process for maybe 10-15 times after which it seems has completed now succesfully.

Konnte heute Morgen das neuste Update einspielen. Musst jedoch den gesamten Prozess ca. 4-5 mal neustarten.

Danach schien alles tiptop zu funktionieren.

Jetzt bin ich jedoch gerade von meinem ersten Tauchgang mit der neuen Software zurück und das Gerät hat sich promt bei 13.7M aufgehängt und zeigt keine Reaktion mehr.

Was genau kann ich nun machen?

Gleiches Problem bei mir.

Ich habe meinen jetzt resettet, und spiele aktuell die 1.3.0 wieder ein. Warten wir halt nochmal zwei Jahre auf die nächste stable.

Wie konntest du ihn den resetten? Einfach gewartet bis der Akku leer ist?
Und wo hast du die 1.3.0 gefunden? Hast du mir hierzu evtl. einen Link?

Resetten kannst du ihn, indem du ihn aufs Ladepad legst und dann einen Magnet ans Gehäuse hältst. Ich weiß leider nicht mehr genau wo, also bin ich mit dem Magnet einfach einmal komplett ums Gehäuse gegangen. Irgendwann hat er dann neu gestartet.

Die 1.3.0 habe ich in weiser Vorraussicht mal gespeichert. Ist ja leider nicht das erste mal, dass sowas passiert. Ich häng sie dir mal an.

Put it on the charger, and swipe a good strong magnet on the left side of the unit. This will reboot the firmware.

Vielen Dank.

Habe nun nochmals die 1.4.7 neu geladen und nochmals einen Tauchgang getestet. Dieses mal ist er mir beim Auftauchen auf 27M eingefroren.

Danach habe ich über den Mittag die 1.3.0 geladen und nochmals einen Tauchgang versucht.

Nun scheint wieder alles zu funktionieren.

Gehe davon aus das bei der 1.4.7 nochmals nachgebessert werden muss...

Both, the OSTC4 and the OSTC Companion give error messages. These would really help. I mean: What happended the 10-15 first times you updated?

Das Problem mit der App kann ich bestätigen. Die Firmware wurde aktualisiert, beim zweiten Durchlauf wurden die Fonts heruntergeladen, aber nicht installiert. Danach keine BT Verbindung mehr möglich.
Beim zurücksetzen mittels Magnet ist doch beim 4er keine Stromzufuhr erforderlich?

Hallo,

Der OSTC4 wird nur neu gestartet, wenn er auch auf dem Lader liegt. Bluetooth sollte aber aktiviert sein (Auch ohne den Font) und man kann das Update dann einfach nochmal starten. Alternativ: Bluetooth ist der 1. Eintrag bei SYS1, also dem lila-farbenem Untermenü.

Fonts werden geladen, aber vom OSTC nicht installiert. Geht vermutlich nicht über die App. Ich versuche es mit dem Mac, wenn ich wieder zu Hause bin.

Yes, when the RTE part is installed (and rebooted), this is normal behavior. You might try to go to the SYS2 menu, Reset Menu, Maintenance, and there you likely see "Reset last known battery state". When that menu entry is not there, simply put the unit on the charger, and it will (after some charging) end up at 100%
