Used for two dives on the weekend. The alternate GF feature seems to work well. Hated going back to the safety stop of needing to stay above 5 m though!

BUG 2.57

Post by T.E.D. »

Hallo,

Still no possibility of automatic CCR setpoint changes?

@alcyone
I very much suspect not in this release, if at all. At the start of the thread the changes in this beta are listed.

This is (like the scrubber countdown clock) currently not planed, sorry.

I'll get onto my desktop PC and add the latest Beta with the. 6m stop if you want.

So no more features for technical divers in the future? Maybe we have to look for another dive computer for technical divers.

Tec diving does not only consist of CCR.
Thats what you get from buying a recreational dive computer!

This is the latest Beta with the safety stop adjusted to 6m. If anyone is interested.

Obviously use at your own risk.

Before this starts again, there will be CF's allowing the user to setup this without compiling the code. Most likely in the next beta...

Again features for recreational divers. I think the users of the OSTC have changed from technically minded to recreational divers

Great to hear Matthias. Most of us use for tech and non-tech diving, so it needs to meet both needs. As well, this surely increases your potential market.

Hi Diver66,

automatic CCR setpoint changes does not have to do much with Tec Diving.
I know very few serious Tec Divers using automatic setpoint changes for technical dives.
Most use mCCR or hCCR resp. change setpoints manually.

Can I ask if there is any plan to include auto setpoint change in any future updates, if not, why not?

Thanks

Just had a read of the Shearwater Petrel manual listing how to use the auto setpoint changing for CCR.....it obviously can be done!

This is a feature that is useful for Tec/CCR diving. Do not really care how the style of diving is labelled, but leaving the CCR vision handset to change setpoints automatically, then having to do it manually on the OSTC backup is not helpful. OC "tec" divers may not see this feature as any use to them but CCR divers such as myself see it as useful.

I know the sarcastic answer will be "go buy a Shearwater" but I would rather support the development of the OSTC. We have CF's to change the colour of displays that some people see as important, some of us would like this feature to be considered

If you think a Shearwater is a better choice, then this is not sarcastic ;) I don't know much about CCR diving - so i'm wondering what other CCR divers think about this feature? Is it a "must have" or is it a "nive to have" or is it something CCR-divers don't use at all because some risks are to high?

Do not think it is a better choice at all and do not want to change.

The CCR handset/controller changes PPO2 setpoints automatically at preset depths. This simply reduces task loading on descent and ascent. It is one of the setpoint changing options and the simplest to dive with. Maybe not all CCR divers use it, however I use it on all shotline dives to make life easier. Whilst juggling with buoyancy control on a CCR on an ascent and letting the handset let me know (via the HUD) that it has changed a setpoint, all I want is for my backup computer to be able to do the same thing! The comment regarding the Shearwater was just to illustrate that a new computer in the same pricing ballpark has included this feature in the CCR functions.

Went with the OSTC due to it being future proof to a large degree as the firmware can be updated to reflect this type of programming change.

Hopefully HW in time will consider adding this functionality....after all this computer is aimed at more that straight forward "recreational diving". So whilst it has excellent functionality for tec OC use which is constantly being developed, can the same be done for CCR diving.

Thanks for your response scubatinoo

I see this becoming a bit of a recreational diver/tec diver/CCR diver match. This is not want I am doing here. Not aimed at you at all for responding to my post above, but just wanted an answer as to why a request for this option to be added has stirred up such

@Alcyone
I am amazed. You got an answer from HW (Matthias).
The implementation of the automatic set point change is currently not planned.

How many more times do you want to ask the same question. Beyond the fact that you've already started a seperate thread for this.
So please stick with your SPAM to your own thread.

And I am being very sarcastic now:
Please buy a Petrel so you can whinge to Shearwater about all the features that are not included in the Petrel.
Cheers,

Hansjoerg

The same question was asked on this thread due to the lack of a full answer to my straight question first time around.

No need for your sarcasm!!

Hello, I am new to the forum.
For a long time I use your product (2N) and before that MK2 and I must say that I find them valuable and high-level.
I read that it is not possible to implement the model of 2N VPN and I was wondering if it was not possible to enter more than the existing algorithm and have GF also automatically calculate the ratio deco.
I know perfectly well that the ratio deco or deco on the fly is managed by the diver and not a computer but in my opinion could be an excellent backup tool to those who make diving decompression using this method.
I apologize for my English is not very good

thanks

Hi Stylediving,

As you correctly state, HW has no intention of implementing other algorithms:
http://forum.heinrichsweikamp.com/read.php?2,2238,7572#msg-7572

And I am afraid I struggle to understand what you are trying to say. Maybe you could say it in your native tounge and someone else could translate it for us.
