Buzzer in OSTC3?

Does the OSTC 3 have a buzzer to emit some sounds for warnings (climbing too fast, too deep, ...)?

I didn't find any mention in the user manual and I fear there is none. For me, that is a requirement for a dive computer.

Examples I find useful with my current computer:

• - When you are busy with something else without noticing your buoyancy is slightly off and you start going up too fast (you're filming a nice fish following it) or down to deep (max ppO2 or just a limit that you manually set because of local regulations).
  - To tell you that you start having decompression stops.
  - Just before your ppO2 starts to reach critical levels.
  - Any situation the computer detects that you are going to die if you don't act fast...

I know that I should be always aware of you depth, decompression stops, and all your parameters. But the computer's buzzer can help you avoid getting into trouble when your attention is somewhere else (helping you buddy with a regulator in free flow for example).

Maybe HW targets only Tec Divers, and Tec Divers don't need audible warnings because they know all the time their dive parameters. I'm no Tec Diver and I'm not that good.

I was planning to buy OSTC dive computers because of the opensource side (being a programmer myself), the nice and readable display and the OK price.

Guess this is why there are audible alarms in commercial passenger carrying aircraft, because the pilots are 'recreational' and don't watch the instruments LOL

So why bother showing decompression/PPO2 violations in red? Same principle surely...

With all due respect, no buzzer is going to save you in that situation.

If you like it, by all means get one. They're fantastic beasts. Be aware that, because of the opensource side, there's a definite likelihood it may crash on you during a dive. And no buzzer is going to save you in that case, either.

The frog seems indeed more adapted to my diving level, but I didn't find the source code for it. Did I miss it somewhere?

Oliver: Being opensource doesn't mean that the first incompetent programmer can add code to your computer. I'm sure the Heinrichs Weikamp people don't let any random code being added to the official firmwares. But that means that more people can look at the code and find problems. With closed source code, you just give your trust to some guys that you don't know and you hope that they didn't do too many mistakes. Agreed that it can also mean that I can change the code, build a firmware, flash it on my computer and have it kill me. But that is only my computer, not everybody else's. And bare in mind that if I were to change the firmware of one of my dive computers like that, I'll make sure to bring along a backup.

Hi, The frog isn't open source but I think the buzzer in the frog isn't what you are looking for (It's not very loud).

I doubt one of our computers is the right choice for you, there are others much more suitable. Uwatec's come with a nice buzzer, for example.
