OSTC Sport - safety stop
OSTC Sport - safety stop
Hi,
I own the OSTC sport and updated to the latest FW 10.31. Using Subsurface, I've set the threshold for the safety stop depth to 5.9m to match it with my other dive computer.
Now I am wondering... sometimes, it works, sometimes not: It is randomly not showing the safety stop (at least for my understanding it is random ).
Today was a normal dive (https://www.divelogs.de/dive/1955744), the OSTC in normal mode was showing some deco time, but due to the slow ascending deco was gone before reaching the deco depth. Afterwars, it was not showing any safety stop information...
Is this a known issue, and how can I solve this?
Thanks for any hint.
Gernot

Re: OSTC Sport - safety stop
Hello,
The Safety Stop is shown if,
a) the dive is deeper then 10m and longer then one minute
b) there is still NDL when passing through 10m depth during the ascend
c) Safety stop is not disabled
Hope this helps...
Matthias

Re: OSTC Sport - safety stop

Matthias

Hi Matthias,
I understand this, and it makes a lot the of sense not to trigger a safety stop if there has already been a deco obligation served. However, it is a bit of an anomaly when a deco obligation is reached, but subsequently cleared during the ascent.
I did a dive two days ago with my Sport (GF 30/80) and Suunto Stinger. Max depth was 27m, and bottom time 37 minutes. Just before ascent, both computers showed a minimal deco obligation (3'/3m), but both had cleared during a pause at 10m to deploy SMB.
At 6m, my Suunto wanted a 3m safety stop, but the Sport didn't want a safety stop because it had already been into and cleared deco.
This sort of profile is quite a common one for me, so it would be good to at least have the option for the Sport to ask for a safety stop in these cases where a deco obligation is cleared through the ascent rather than through a deco stop.

Re: OSTC Sport - safety stop
I just had a dive very similar to other profiles at the same diving spot as before (deco of 1'@4m which cleared during ascent). This time the OSTC showed the safety stop, what it did not for the dive before (also with a deco 1'@4m, also cleared during ascent).
For me it is still somehow random.
I would like to have at least an option to "always force" the saftey stop.

Re: OSTC Sport - safety stop
I took my OSTC Sport for a dive to 35m (using EAN29) today. My NDL ran down to zero at about the 15min mark (28m), and for 5-6 minutes it was showing neither NDL nor deco. It was only at about the 21min mark (23m) that it showed 3m/1'.
I wonder if I had ascended to safety stop depth during that period where I had exceeded NDL but the OSTC wasn't showing and deco stops, would it have started a safety stop?

Re: OSTC Sport - safety stop
Most likely you would have seen NDL again before reaching 10m, so: Yes, the OSTC would have shown a Safety Stop.

Re: OSTC Sport - safety stop
So far I've never seen my OSTC go into safety stop! Granted I've only done 5 dives on it so far, and two of them <10m.
But the other three have been to 26m, 26m, 35m. All those incurred only small deco which was cleared during ascent. I never saw an NDL reappear, nor a safety stop.

You have it enabled in the "Deco Mode" menu?

Yes.
I've seen it doing a simulated dive

Re: OSTC Sport - safety stop
Option to "Always force Safety Stop" would be nice and comfortable!

Not "always"... if a deco stop is made, there should be no requirement for a safety stop. If all deco requirements are cleared during ascent, there should be an option to still require a safety stop
