Does a 14500 3.7V Li-Ion work in a OSTC sport?
Some types are as long as 52mm due to a protection circuit. Will the battery compartment still close realiably with one of those?

Yes, it works , without protection circuit for example the Panasonic Sanyo UR14500P 840 mAh, with a button top (different types available), without protection circuit.
