FAQ: Batteries in the OSTC plus

Post by heinrichsweikamp »

DEUTSCH:

Code: Select all

1,5V Primärbatterie und Einstellung T0 -> KORREKT
1,5V Primärbatterie und Einstellung T1 -> FALSCH
1,5V Primärbatterie und Einstellung T2 -> FALSCH
1,5V Primärbatterie und Einstellung T4 -> FALSCH

3,6V Lithium-Ionen-Akkumulator und Einstellung T0 -> FALSCH
3,6V Lithium-Ionen-Akkumulator und Einstellung T1 -> FALSCH
3,6V Lithium-Ionen-Akkumulator und Einstellung T2 -> KORREKT
3,6V Lithium-Ionen-Akkumulator und Einstellung T4 -> FALSCH

ENGLISH:

In the OSTC plus different kind of batteries can be used. For a working battery level display it's required to manually tell the OSTC which battery is inserted. To check this, the battery type is shown in front of the battery voltage in the surface mode screen.

T0: A 1,5V primary battery (Non-Rechargable)
T2: A 3,6V Lithium-ion battery (Rechargable)

Overview:

Code: Select all

1,5V primary battery and setting T0 -> CORRECT
1,5V primary battery and setting T1 -> FALSE
1,5V primary battery and setting T2 -> FALSE
1,5V primary battery and setting T4 -> FALSE

3,6V Lithium-ion battery and setting T0 -> FALSE
3,6V Lithium-ion battery and setting T1 -> FALSE
3,6V Lithium-ion battery and setting T2 -> CORRECT
3,6V Lithium-ion battery and setting T4 -> FALSE
To use the OSTC with the factory-supplied battery, it's required that T2 is selected. With T0, the charging is automatically disabled and the charger pad only blinks in red.

A freshly installed, rechargeable battery is shown with 0% battery level. A recharge cycle is required to calibrate the battery meter display in the OSTC plus. This has been implemented like this intentionally.

The batteries we built into the OSTC plus all have a Sanyo UR14500P or Panasonic ICR14500 cell and a small protection electronics attached to the cell. This essentially prevents the deep discharge of the cell and is an additional protection against overcharging. If the OSTC plus drained the battery completely (older firmware versions had a higher St.By current than specified and this can lead to a complete discharge after a few months of non-use), the OSTC plus may no longer start with the charger because the protection electronics no longer switch on the actual cell. In this case, the battery must either be charged externally or replaced. In this case, the OSTC plus can be operated with a standard 1.5V battery.

Some Details about the required USB adaptor: The charger can sink up to 2A (In almost all cases an adaptor with 1.5A is sufficient), especially when the battery is very low. Since no communication with the USB adaptor takes place (The charger just sinks the current), "fast-Charge" or "intelligent" USB adaptors may not work properly with our charger. Is the charger indicating green and then after a short period of time red, it's usually a charger that can not supply sufficient current. We offer a suitable adapter in the Webshop: https://heinrichsweikamp.com/index.php/ ... aptor.html

Don't buy batteries which claim to have much more capacity then any other brand in the same size!

Newer OSTC+ (So from 2022) were supplied by us with a battery that can also be charged via a micro-USB connector. This allows you to charge the battery without the Qi charger if it is discharged and cannot be charged via the charging pad.
