OSTC 2 failing at 115m - screen bend in - stuck in dive loop after?
Hi all, has anybody experienced similar issues? I bought a second hand OSTC 2n around 2015 and there are a couple of issues with it over the past years.
They might be related.
- first of all the left button is almost impossible to use, the only way to get it working again is to press it in a very specific way with a round surface. Ie corner of a table, coin, watch etc..
before the dive this was for sure the case
- around 60m the screen bends, like you press on an old monitor, the colors warp and the left side of the screen becomes difficult to read. At shallower depths this is not noticeable. This has been the case since i bought it. This is one of the standard things that i hear from divebuddies that older ostc computers have screen issues.
This gets gradually worse, and at 100m half of the screen looks bend. And at my deepest dive at 115m the computer just shut down…
When plugging it to my laptop it came back to live, as a 14m dive, i had to let the battery run dead in order to do anything. The 115m dive is not logged.
I tried to recharge it, but during the recharging it switches randomly to 125 or 145m dives, so completely stuck in dive mode. See screen attached.
Unit runs firmware 3.13
Anything that i can do myself? The moment that it has enough battery it shoots into random divemode

The buttons do degrade over time, I know of a few that over the years have suffered the same thing. I’ve not heard of the screen issue before though.
It may just be reaching the end of its natural lifespan.

I've had my 2N for 8 years and even its battery is still top. But by now I do use it as a spare.
I think yours is a dead loss and even if it could be repaired you should buy a new ostc.

Hmmz, not buying a new OSTC if this happens every 5 years difficult to accept that a device that is intended for this use simply stops working after 350 dives on it.
I could let the unit run out of battery for the third time, and now it goes into dive mode, screen works to some extent, but all dives end up as 150m dives, deco stays stuck at 240" and doesn't calculate properly.
Only used it as timing device with tables as backup since then.
I can provide more pictures + divelogs etc if needed.

I think 115 mtr. is out of range of the 2N, isn't it?
