Difference btw Sport, 2 and Plus
Deciding on my first dive computer and these hover around the budget.
However it is hard to wrap ones head around exactly to what extent they differ.
Besides battery options, case and button type, are there any differences between these options?

They all run the same software, the difference is in the hardware (buttons, battery etc.)

And how about the "guts"? Beyond the battery I guess.
It strikes me as whatever I choose I won't be missing anything I can't have added for the same price on either.
I just have to choose between the button type (A question of reliability?),
the size of the thing and whether batteries can be exchanged (Convenience and.. Ehm... "style points" I guess).

Battery capacity too
I think the:
sport uses disposable batteries only
Plus has a small rechargeable battery but can take disposable batteries too
2 has a much larger rechargeable battery
Plus can come in nice colours, 2 is black only, I don’t know about the sport, I’ve only seen silver.

Re: Difference btw Sport, 2 and Plus
Yea it is unclear whether the battery in the Plus is one you replace with an AA if you need to or the AA is in addition to the internal one
(and more as a backup solution on a trip without a charger).
Maybe someone can clarify that..

Hi,
The OSTC Plus can be fitted with :
- Rechargeable 3.7 V lithium battery (the best option combined with the induction charger, no need to open the computer).
- Disposable 3.6 V lithium battery.
- Disposable 1.5 V alkaline battery (when nothing else is available on dive site !)
The Heinrichs Weikamp web site could be enriched with a comparison table...
Regards.

Re: Difference btw Sport, 2 and Plus
Oh, thanks! Yea that was informative. (And should indeed be on the website).
When you say "can be fitted with" is this by the user or a choice on purchase?
(Since it's sold out I can't see the purchase options on the website)

Re: Difference btw Sport, 2 and Plus
Hi again,
"Can be fitted" means by the user, depending on the type of battery available.
Important update : in most recent firmware releases, due to the possible risk of confusion with rechargeable batteries, the use of 3.6 V disposable batteries is no more permitted in the OSTC plus and cannot be selected in the menu !
Kind regards.

Re: Difference btw Sport, 2 and Plus
The plus comes with a rechargeable battery installed already, in an emergency you can use a disposable AA battery

Up to the user to decide.
One or two years ago, there was some table to compare all models (put into one post, a pdf file) ; and yes, would be great it's updated and put on the Web site

Whatever your choice, you will enjoy ; clear, simple and robust. What else ?

Re: Difference btw Sport, 2 and Plus
I'm gonna trust the piezo buttons on the 2 and Plus are a noticeable benefit to the push buttons on the sport.
That narrows it down to if I want long battery life or replaceable battery.
(And housing, but that's a matter of taste and I'm sure both are great and either would grow on me).

You can order all the computers of hwk just to have a „hands on“! Very very nice service from hwk!
I did it two years ago an switched from my favourite „plus“ to „sport“
Sport has a brighter display and the „non piezo“ buttons seemed to me more reliable than the piezos (take a look in this forum about the issues of piezo)
In my opinion I don‘t need a charger to carry around and to fix with bungees while boat trip…
Just a pair of spare batteries….or put some new in the computer for holidays…can use the old ones at home till empty…

Re: Difference btw Sport, 2 and Plus
Thanks a lot for the input, all of you.
It sounds like the 2 suits me best. I'd rather be sure to charge it overnight than replace batteries.
That ABS body isn't the nicest looking but I doubt I'll find myself wearing it as a fashion statement

Re: Difference btw Sport, 2 and Plus
So the Sport has a runtime of up to 100 hours with a 1.5V battery while the Plus has up to 50 hours. Since it mentions that the Sport has a brighter screen I wonder if both of these are due to the transflective screen. I.e. when it's bright you can turn the back light on the Sport down and save battery, while the Plus needs to run with back light turned on higher.
If you're diving in darkness, would the battery runtime and brightness for the Plus and the Sport end up being similar, or is there something else than the transflective screen that gives the Sport higher brightness and more battery life?

Re: Difference btw Sport, 2 and Plus
The sport has an optimzed electronics and the CPU is run on lower voltage, so its base consumption is lower than with any 2 or sport. But the additional current needed to illuminate the screen scales heavily with the brightness setting and is more or less equal on all models.

Re: Difference btw Sport, 2 and Plus
Sorry to necro this. Didn't say thanks for the answers.
Also just to hammer it out in stone:
Between the Sport and Plus,
it's button type (push vs. piezo),
wireless charging and battery life (wireless for Plus, but SPort lasts longer on AA)
and screen on Sport being more visible in daylight.
