OSTC 2 Black screen when entering water
OSTC 2 Black screen when entering water
Last diving weekend I did 5 dives, saturday 3, sunday 2.
Last dive on saturday, I started the computer before entering the water, it had over 90% lefter of the battery, upon entering the water at a couple meters down, I looked at the computer and it was completely black, seemingly dead.
Strangely enough, when I return to the boat, the screen was on again. Does this happen often to you?
Is this common? I would think this is a showstopper bug, but Mr Matthias Heinrich is not interested to figure this out, he said.
Using OSTC 2 with sport 10.76, now upgraded to 10.80.

Re: OSTC 2 Black screen when entering water
Have you ever looked at the computer during the dive? What did it show?
Re: OSTC 2 Black screen when entering water
As stated above " I looked at the computer and it was completely black, seemingly dead."
Re: OSTC 2 Black screen when entering water
You wrote "when I return to the boat, the screen was on again." To me, this is unclear if the display revovered while still under water (returning to the boat), or at the surface. Anyhow, you wrote that you already posted this directly to HW, but didn't share the exchange. So hard to help here.

Thanks Ralph. Some clarifications:Ralph wrote: ↑Wednesday 6. November 2024, 15:16 You wrote "when I return to the boat, the screen was on again." 1. before dive, computer works OK, and the screen is ON.
2. In the water, when diving, the whole dive, the screen is off, black, computer non-responsive. Checking many, many times while diving.
3, On the boat, AFTER the dive, the screen turns on.
How to make the dive computer enter dive mode? Sensor problem? SW bug?
Ralph, clear now? Need more info?
Re: OSTC 2 Black screen when entering water
OK, there's a simple trick to make the OSTC switching to dive mode, as it does not have wet contact but evals the pressure only: put it into a Tupperware box (other brands work as well) with a clear lid and exercise some pressure on the lid. You first should see the displayed surface pressure reading increasing, and then the OSTC should switch to dive mode once enough pressure has build up. Depening on the size and stiffness of the box, you may need to press quite hard.
Re: OSTC 2 Black screen when entering water
Ralph, I tried with one of ours food containers, and it do change the barometric pressure. Cannot get it into dive mode. But, the thing is, the most important thing, I want it to get into DIVE MODE IN THE WATER. How do I do that? I have to bring my food container/tupperware on every dive trip?Ralph wrote: ↑Saturday 9. Re: OSTC 2 Black screen when entering water
What was the battery voltage I wonder? I wonder if it was low anyway and then the cold water dropped this and caused the computer to shut off, returning to the surface may have warmed it and then it turned on again.
You might be chasing your tail on this, you’ve already updated the firmware, have you dived since you did this? Perform a full reset, give the computer a good long charge and you may never see this issue ever again.

Re: OSTC 2 Black screen when entering water
Hi,
We had been in contact aabout this two weeks ago via email. Send the unit to us for a check/test. We can repair/replace these units if required. It makes not too much sense to discuss this here (again) in detail.
Regards,
Matthias

With the help of Ralph here, I have verified that the sensor works, at least the barometric value changes when I compress the plastic box where I have put it.heinrichsweikamp wrote: ↑Friday 15. November 2024, 18:27 Hi,

You can test the software without my unit.
If I send my computer to germany, what should I then use when diving? In that case you have to send me a unit before I send mine.
Anyway, how will you test this, Matthias? If you just test it once from the main menu, this is wortless, IMHO.

Re: OSTC 2 Black screen when entering water
I sent an OSTC on November 14th for sensor replacement, it came back on November 22nd : if you had sent it as soon as Matthias suggested it, it would have come back already...
Kind regards.
