OSTC Mk2 Screen staying dark

Post by nickpicks »

Half way through a liveaboard week, my Mk2 didn't turn on during a dive. It had been showing 68% battery on the previous day's dive, and had been plugged into a USB power bank overnight. I cancelled the dive.

When I pressed buttons, the screen lit up bright white with black dots (I think this is the start up screen). The orange light was flashing when plugged in, and the blue light was flashing after the dive. I carried on diving with it for the rest of the week. (I relied on my buddy's computer for depth/time/ndl)

When I got home, I plugged it into the PC and subsurface could download all the dive data, although those after the failure were all dated 2021.
Subsurface can read the settings and alter them.

I've tried swapping the battery with my backup OSTC Mk2, no difference.

I've tried a magnet reset and used bootloader to update the firmware and it all seems to talk to it sucessfully. (it was already at 3.16)

So it seems that my dive compuer is working properly, but the screen doesn't show any data.

I've just bought a shiny new OSTC 2 Gen5 to replace it, and I know it's well outside of the warranty period (or expected lifetime) but it would be nice to get it working again if possible.

Any ideas about what else I could try to get it back to life?

This is what the screen looks like when I turn it on, then it goes dark again.

Looks like your display died.
I doubt that HW will repair it as they communicated the end of support for 2N and MK not long ago....

Write an email to HW.
Cheers,

I agree, this looks like the unit is end-of-life unfortunately.

Thanks for the comments.
I did assume it was end of life, and at 14 years, deservedly so. I was just wondering if there was any possibility of getting it to work again.

I've bought a shiny new OSTC2 gen 5 as a replacement, so I'm happy again.
