OSTC Mk2 simulator vs GAP 1.2

Post by gorcio »

Hi,

maybe it will be useful for someone to compare output of OSTC Mk2 v1.70 with GAP 1.2.
Both the computer and GAP set to GF 30/80, dive parameters 45m/31m bottom time with O2(6m) and EAN 50(21m) as deco gases. Both the computer and GAP set to use ZH-L16C. OSTC Mk2 plan was run several times in a row, ALWAYS quitting the simulator completely to the main menu, before re-running simulation to avoid potentially treating the dive as a consecutive dive.

Now, what GAP gives is :
24/1'
21/1'
18/2'
15/3'
12/5'
9/5'
6/18'

OSTC gives consecutively almost same plan (with just a small variation indicated by * below) :
24/??? Can't see on the display :-) Any news about fix for this list :-) ?
21/2'
18/1'
15/3'
12/4'
9/5' **** in 5 runs on the simulator, once it got to 6'
6/17'

Now, these are pretty similar, please however observe that GAP included additional time to descent in the calculation (set to 20m/1' descent, 10m/1'ascent up to 6meters, then 3m/1' for ascent from 6m to surface). I do not know how OSTC calculates descent rate on the simulator, but GAP added 2.3minutes to the bottom time, in this case being 33.3 minutes instead of 31 minutes as run on OSTC Mk2 Simulator.
Having added those two minutes to OSTC Mk2 simulator, I got :
24/????
21/2'
18/1'
15/4'
12/3'
9/7'
6/18'

I am not sure, but it looks to me as if OSTC tried to extend first deep stop after gas switch to benefit from high PPO2, and also include break on the backgas just before switching to O2.

Your comments are welcome, but to me it's pretty reassuring knowing that it matches my deco planning software pretty well. If anybody is interested, I can run some simulations against real TMX dives I did, and compare what it gives now, with what we calculated with RD and verified by GAP.
Kind regards,
Gorcio, OSTC MK2 828
