Backup CF Settings

Hello @all,

From now I am also a happy OSTC 2N user ... Well done Matthias and Christian!!
I have a question regarding JDiveLog and the settings of the Custom Functions. Is there a way to Backup the personal changes of the CF with JDiveLog?

If I remember correctly, my CF's were saved by the OSTC the last times I upgraded to the newer Beta-Versions from 1.90 stable on. At least I did not have to change anything again as I upgraded to 1.95 from 1.93.

The Need to Store the CF is to easily restore after a complete Reset or to copy the settings to another OSTC.

Unless its a new feature on the new beta all CF's are flushed to defaults every time you upgrade.

It's done in the interest of safety and HW has gone on the record around this issue before.

Most of your CF's are probably at default settings so you'll only need to write down those that interest you. Pen and paper are fine most of the time.

At least my GF-CF's were not set to default after my last update (I am leaving most of the other cf's on default)

Sry Mate, this is not true for beta releases, just "official" releases. I also would vote for a backup thing. In my opinion resetting CF is quite a serious issue and I'm already thinking of skipping 2.0 in favour of 2.01. I had some trouble after installing 1.90 any many things has been wrong after that...

I have added a Perl script (ostc_cf.pl) which writes to a text file the list of 'Custom Functions' having been changed (and only these) together with their default and personal values.

It is part of the logbook.zip file available here.


Launching this script before upgrading the firmware should make it easy to restore the 'Custom functions' afterwards.

Thx a lot Daniel! I'd suggest to save any other CF as well and offer a compare function to the current settings as we've seen changes in default values as well. I'll not say one've to change them back but just knowing the CF are different makes it easier to understand things and track issues.

OK, your wish is easy to satisfy
I'll add the complete list of default values (I prefer printing only the changes separately first).

@Matthias: according to your documentation "ostc_interface_description.pdf",
Eeprom Bank 1 should show:
-- 1rst byte = logbook version,
-- bytes 2-3 = firmware version.

On my OSTC (firmware 1.90), I only see zeroes in both fields
I'd like to print the firmware version also to the output file...

I had a similar request some weeks ago. My solution now is based on using DivingLog. You can write all settings to a binary file prior to fw upgrade. Once the upgrade is successfully completed you can restore the settings from this binary file.

In addition to that DivingLog shows you all CFs that are different from the defaults in bold letters. So it's quite easy to write down your personal settings if you dislike the binary file process.

From what I've read and heard about divinglog it seems to be quite a valuable tool but it is still running on the wrong operating system for quite a few people around here....

I've just try your brand new OSTC Planner, keep on, very usefull...good job.
Unfortunatly I've got the same PB as Uwe: the window is too long so I can't use the graphical outputs.
I've got a 16"screen in 1366*768 laptop.
