How to setup my new OSTC2n to be conservative

Hi Guys,
Bought my new OSTC2n and absolutely love it, surely one of the best displays out there and wicked to use.

I will be using it mostly for recreational diving with buddies around the UK and would thus like to set it up to give stops in a smiliar manner to buddies Suunto's etc. What is the best way to achieve this?

I was a little dissapointed not to have safety stops as a custom function, so use the stopwatch for that which is nice and simple, but would love to see it automatically implemented later on, maybe with a "cancel" option appearing in the menu if you wish to just ignore it... its a pre requisite stop when diving in Egypt so woukld be great to have the option for it to work automatically for dives such as this to save having to keep rummaging for the stopwatch and reset av depth option, or even forgetting altogether and having to endure the wrath of some Egyptian guide. LOL.

Otehr than that, what an amazing computer, absolutely love it.

I made the experience that a GF setting of 20/80 is not to far away from a Suuto HelO2 with a conservativity setting of -2.

The deepstops on the Suunto will be deeper and the 3m stop a couple of minutes longer.

To my understanding there will be no way to get a real match of the stops as the calcuation models are to differen.

As mrbredon mentions, only an approximation is possible. The algorithm Suunto uses is RGBM. OSTC uses the Bühlmann algorithm.
But before you start fiddling with Gradient Factors its important for you to understand how they work.
There is plenty of information on the net.

The safety stop is very hotly debated. I cannot see any reasons for its implementation other than stopping this eternal discussion.

Depending on your dive you can set GF low = 10 and GF high = 85

But let me say that this dive computer is NOT intended for recreational diving - that's because the "safety stopp" feature is missing... According to that logic you have two ways: 1) buy an other dive computer or 2) learn technical diving. (:P)

Thanks for the information guys really appreciate it.

However, I thought my own implementation of the "safety stop" that I just explained in my opening post was perfectly adequate when all the divers I am with are using one and I want to hang around a similar length of time, which is especially usefull when diving with new divers who may just follow me up If I dont do my stop with them.

Why do you suggest I should buy another computer instead of doing what I already do, makes no sense at all to me so please explain in case I have missed something complex here?!

The implementation of a Safety Stop function in the 2N has been very hotly debated.

Actually there is an easier way to monitor the time for the safety stop.
In CF38 you can set the dive time to show the seconds. So when you start the safety stop you can monitor the additional 3 minutes to the second.

One thing though, your buddies have Suunto's with a the safety stop function. Why don't you piggy back on their 3 mintues? I assume you are all starting the safety stop at the same time!?

For no other reason than I like to be in full control of my own dive and have asll my own information to hand, especially after sopending £650 on a computer. LOL.

As Bardass said, the best way to configure OSTC 2N to match NDL to other computers in recreative divings is to set Bulhmann without GF and CF11: 120%

Last dive I made was an EAN32 dive at 20-30m wreck, and my OSTC gave me the same NDL than my suunto vyper Air (in fact, the suunto was a little bit less conservative, with 1-2 min more NDL compared with OSTC, but is a pretty fair match).
