Unnecessary charging?

Post by Goose_66 »

Hi everybody,

I am still playing with my new OSTC 2n and maybe I should RTFM a bit more but I could not find where it says how the charging algorithm works.

My problem:
-I connected a new OSTC stating it had a pretty new battery (2 cycles) which was almost completely charged to my computer (this was to check drives and connectivity to OSTC planner);
-Battery symbol turned yellow (that was expectedB)-)
-after disconnecting I get 3 cycles on the battery ..... (that was not expected::o)

Now since I like to download often (and maybe play with colors and parameters) I am afraid that I will load a cycle per dive or even more, maybe stressing the battery (is that so?:S).

Is the charging controlled by software? If so would it be possible of feasible set a minimum level of discharge before charging? Possibly the level would be configurable so for me diving close to home and often I can wait 30% but when leaving for a trip, no matter what I would like to give it a full charge ....

Cheers

Fabio

Hi,

Charging is hard-wired (Not under software control), The value "cycles" is just a counter when connecting to USB power.

There is some hysteresis in the battery charger to prevent unnecessary charging cycles. We also do not charge the battery to 100% to prolong the battery life, especially when the unit stays connected to USB much longer then needed.
