Hello,

A friend just received his Russian OSTC (Seawooch) and the firmware version on the screen is 2.70+. Is it normal? Or is it a modified version from the manufacturer?

There is only one OSTC: The one from HeinrichsWeikamp! And therefore you'll find the firmware here: http://www.heinrichsweikamp.com/?id=57 Everything else has nothing to do with HW...

Excuse me but OS stands for Open Source ... :S
On his screen the HW logo is displayed, I guess it's because the firmware comes directly from HW no?

Yes, but "Open Source" doesn't mean automaticaly to be free for use!!! There are always licences and copyrights to care about...

It seems that it is modified version by manufacturer. Do they provide firmware sourcecode? If they do (and they should according to the GPL license until they have different agreement with HW company), then you can compare the differences by yourself.

Hello all,

Yes, it looks like this is a modified version from the manufacturer with minor changes.
As I don't own this computer (and have no plan to do so), I won't look at the source code (I can't read russian).

Thank you for the informations.

I thought this forum is a HW forum for HW computer related topics ???
I believe open source doesn't mean it is free to implement the software to other foreign computers.

The code is under the GPL so anybody is free to use it, modify it on whatever platform he wants. Changes must be published.

Thread is closed, I had the information I was looking for (note that I didn't ask for any support).
