Hello,
Would it be possible in the depth graph displayed in the log book that the color used are function of ascent speed instead of gas used ?
Maybe it need a new CF to choose the color meaning ....
I was thinking of
below CF5 white, between CF5 and CF47 green, and red after ?
As a french dive instructor, it could be nice to show my student their respect of the ascent speed during some kind of exercices ....
I spoke with other dive instructors (who have an OSTC) about this function, and they also thought it could be usefull to them.
Thanks for your response.

I think that the screen is too small to show any significant information if it remains in the same line.
Another method would be to use another line in the screen with a different color showing the average change in depth/minute.That is if you want it in the computer. If I remember correctly then that is what was shown in the inspiration log among all the other lines.
Read the log into the computer and you can see it.

i agree with Florian'proposal
and display the maximal vertical speed in the logbook instead of voltage for example

Have you checked out Subsurface? It has an excellent interface to the DC and is compatible with almost all DCs out there.
Once the dives have been downloaded to the PC, Subsurface will show colour coded ascent and descent rates in the dive profile. Also when the mouse hovers over any part of the depth profile it will show information about the dive at that instant including current ascent/descent rate in the units you have configured to use in the application.

I know Subsurface
but i don't have any PC or Mac ont the boat to show ascending profile and vertical speed to my students

Actualy the three logbook pages are some kind of "wasting the pixels"... (:P) even though i show skills and fishes to my students - it would be nice to have more informations on the logbook pages then the given ones...
But i would keep it simple: green ascent rate ok, red ascent rate to high...

As Olaf says, another line with the speed of descent / ascent could be ok, but it seems to me less natural to understand.
I believe that info is displayed with colors on the xdeep black DC.
And of course we can show the graph on subsurface, but as bardass says, I don't bring my pc on the boat

The vertical speed is not logged. That means it needs to be calculated from the depth samples. With the default of 10 seconds this will not result in reasonable values unless you really messed up your ascend. I'd rather recommend to use a download tool to evaluate this data.

Matthias

As we already said with bardass, we have our dive computer, but not our PC on the boat, and this is not easy to debrief the course two hours later, after we get back, take a shower and so on ...
I personaly set the samples to 2 sec and making a speed calculation on this rate is quiet accurate in my mind. I don't seek for a very precise information, but something to help my students visualize their exercice....

Hi,
I've the same need for the OSTC3 :
> something graphical to show high speed ascent (maybe color or an icon)
With some Sunnto you can "replay" the dive, it may be efficient for students debriefing.

Why don't you buy an OSTC for your students too? This way they get the information about their ascent rate during ascent in realtime... (:P)
