Underwater bug (Gas change)

Hi,

I have an OSTC 3 with version 1.77:
First gas: TX24/24
Deco: NX72 (MOD 12)

I do my dive and begin my deco. At -12m the OSTC ask me to change first gas to deco gas with the yellow flashing box. I say ok and a red alert is flashing because my pPO2 is… 0? I look for the gas I have selected and see TX0/21 (I don’t have this gas on my OSTC). So I select manually my deco gas (NX72) and can continue my deco.

At home I check my profile on “Diving Log” but the profile stop at the “bug time”. When I check my profile directly on the OSTC log book I see the entire profile with full deco…

As it’s not my first “underwater bug” with my OSTC3 I generally dive with a runtime.

Greeting,

Sly

----------------

Hello,

J’ai un OSTC3 avec la version 1.77
Premier gaz : TX24/24

Salutations,

Sly

Hello Sly,

Can you please download this dive with the OSTC Tools and send me the .dive file. It contains everything including the gas setup for this dive.

regards,
Matthias

Hi Matthias,

with OSTC tool I see the entire profile. So I send it on your email (ostc@...)

Thanks,

Sly

Got it. Can I post it here?

What did the OSTC propose for the gas change here? Your currently selected gas was blinking in yellow. A press on the left button will then show your next gas. Was "NX72?" displayed?

Matthias

At -12m a gas was blinking in yellow. After I selected it I see the gas was TX0/21...

Attached is the .dive file. I can only see one gas change event (Sample #810):

Eventbyte found at pos 810
810 Pos: 4461 depth: 1187 Temp( pos:1, length:2, value:2)88 DecoNDL(2)9m 2min
810 Pos: 4461 TotalSize: 9 Profileflagbyte 10000110 length: 6 EvtB=T
has GasChange
has GasChange to #4
AlarmType: 00000100 4
Number of Eventbytes: 1
EB0: 10000110
(0)10100011 (1)00000100 (2)10000110 (3)00100100 (4)00000100 (5)01011000 (6)00000000 (7)00001001 (8)00000010

You don't switch _to_ the yellow blinking gas, you switch _from_ it. Here's a screenshot showing what you have seen:

TX15/40 is blinking in yellow, "NX50 ?" pops up when pressing the left button.

Matthias

My OSTC3 invited me to change gas at sample #802:

Eventbyte found at pos 802
802 Pos: 4406 depth: 1260
802 Pos: 4406 TotalSize: 5 Profileflagbyte 10000010 length: 2 EvtB=T
has GasChange
has GasChange to #0
AlarmType: 00000100 4

The alarm was: AlarmBytes(4) ppO2 low

- NX50 was not active on my OSTC for this dive
- I have seen TX0/21 on my screen when the ppO2 alarm was blinking in red
- PpO2 was 0 at this moment
- PpO2 at 12m with NX50 is not too low... so why a ppO2 alarm?
- What is gas #0?

Under "used gases" you can see my two gases : TX24/24 & NX72

Hi,

The following happened here:

- A "Better Gas" indication was displayed because you were within range of the gas change
- You pressed left button
- you immediately descended just enough to have the "Better Gas" indication disabled internally (Because the ppO2 would have been bigger then 1,60bar then)
- you confirmed the change before the indication has been cleared (Within one second)

-> the OSTC switched to a non-available Gas #0 with the results shown :(

Matthias

Ok, that makes sense.

Perhaps for a new version, when the left button is selected, the OSTC should keep the preselected gas (even the ppO2 is too hi) and show a ppO2 alert just after switch!? In my case I was already breathing the new gas before switch it on the dive computer and a hi ppO2 alert would be nice.

Thanks for your explanations,

Sly

PS: next time I'll try to have a better trim :-)

There already is something similar to your proposal. The "OC Gas list" Customview:

You can see which gas _would_ be unsuitable in the current depth. In this example Gas #2 (O2) would result in too much ppO2. The "OC Gas List" also warns for low ppO2.

Matthias

I agree if your switching gas on your computer your already breathing it.

If it is displayed and you press the button the computer should accept the switch and then show the alert.
