OSTC Companion cannot connect to OSTC Sport

Post by Blacky »

Hello,
when connecting my latest generation OSTC Sport via Bluetooth with MacOS and OSTC Companion the "Companion" connects via Bluetooth, but reports the error "Not an OSTC Sport". This consequently means that OSTC Campanion can no longer be used for hwOS updates.

Is this a hwOS problem that can (and will) be fixed in an new hwOS version? Or is a new OSTC Companion Version needed and will be provided someday? Or is OSTC Companion end of support and Subverison is the last remaining program for MacOS users to make hwOS updates?

PS / If an iPhone is "at hand" have a look at iOS "OSTConf", which could be a serious alternative to outdated OSTC MacOS tools.

- OSTC Sport #23216 with hwOS Sport 10.74
- OSTC Companion Mac 3.0.0 beta 8 (aka 3.0.8) (latest "build" from 2016...)
- Mac OS 10.15.7

Yes, it's quite outdated now. We recommend to use Subsurface on MAC, where you can setup everything as in the Companion (And many parameters more) and for updating the firmware use the Mobile Apps. Even here in production we update entire batches of OSTC with the mobile apps now since it's so much more convenient to do.

It's unlikely getting a newer build for MAC any time soon. We expect MAC OS to get closed for Apps outside their Mac App Store anyway and there are better, working and available alternatives now.

Regards,
Matthias
