Warming while charging

Post by Walde »

I read from the manual that it takes up to six hours to download completely. For me it's way more than that because the computer warms up and stops charging untill it cools down. Does everyone else's computers warm up? And how much?
At room temperature 23-24C it takes 12h to charge from ~80% to 100%.

Yes it does heat up and when it gets too warm it stops charging.
I don't discharge it more than 70% and I let it charge overnight. I also make sure its in a well ventilated area to charge.

I actually put the charging part and computer once in water to test and it charged quick. But I can't be bothered now. Besides electricity and water don't mix.

It would also help if the charging percentage was displayed during charging.

I cool the computer while charging in water with a small cooling block. cooling with water in a room temperature room works wel.

Do you have any pictures an reccommendations regarding the cooling block?

I really struggle to load my OSTC4 - sometimes is looks all good and reports an full load within 1-4 hours, but over night its still not full.
So I really appreciate any support in this aerea.

Thanks in advance and best regards

Thanks guys for this input - cooling the dive computer is indeed working great to get it to charge faster!

I have made a new version of a charging cradle design that I did a while ago. This new version allows mounting of a cheap 60mm fan next to the OSTC4, and it substantially reduces charging time. The fan is only pushed onto the cradle, so it can be removed easily, making this a very portable solution.
