What's the difference between the 2n and Mk2? Is it just new packaging?

Guys
Does this means that the ppo2 monitoring is now back?

The OSTC 2N has the interface of the OSTC1 built-in.

Lass, no: this is just refering to the micro USB connector...
The spec says:
The OSTC 2N is technically identical to the OSTC Mk.2.
So, Mk.2N is just a new dress, just as Pepe puts it.
But a nice dress indeed, which should be better at protecting the unit, and already have the bungee cords holes !

Hi all,
The 2N is only a redesigned Mk.2. All the specs are identical and the firmware is 100% compatible.
- same OLED display
- same glass cover
- same electronics/schematic
- same battery
- same switches
- same max. depth
- 2N now has a mirco-USB bulkhead instead of mini-USB
- bungee mount is included in the 2N
- price of the 2N is 31EUR (incl. German 19% VAT) higher compared to the Mk.2 with bungee mount
- weight increased to 200g (+20g)
- x and y size is slightly bigger, z is identical (If a bungee mount was used)
2N will be available (hopefully) in a few weeks.
Cheers,
Matthias

giz,
I don't know where you are writing from, but in Europe usually you have a timefrime to return the object to the shop and get refounded.
BTW, I felt frustated like you when I saw the 2n at first, but I'm convinced that tec divers will still prefer the slimlined Mk2 to this fat boy. Others rivals dive computers (X1, Divesystem, UEMIS, etc. etc) follow the skiny trend and looking at the 2n deeper I would say I'm happy to own a Mk2.
I've seen some after-market bumpers for the Mk2, I can always apply one of those on top to make it bigger and more protected, but I rather prefer to take off my BCD in the water without the risk to hang it to my dive computer...

Hi,
the uemis is much bigger then it looks on the pictures and compared to the shearwater predator the ostc is much smaller...
The x1 is really small but the small display isn't really compareable to the OSTC Mk.2.... Never seen the divesystems computer in real life but the display also does not look very good.
Cheers!

Jostein,
I fully agree with you, that's why I own a Mk2 and not another computer (divesystem for example, I have a direct line with the company)! On the previous post I was more focusing to the "bare, skinny, essential" design, which in my opinion has a reason of being. Just an example, who does remove the hose protections on the regs or the bumper around the manometer? I guess a lot of us...
Personally more I see the 2n, more I don't like it

So, does the new case allows for the O2 board to be connected or is than not an option any more?

I though "All the specs are identical and the firmware is 100% compatible" is clear
The OSTC 2N/Mk.2 has no option to read O2 sensor cells.

Matthias

Thanks Matthias,
The website has the following words "The OSTC 2N has the interface of the OSTC1 built-in"
Since that line mentions the Mk1 rather than the MK2 and there are screws in the back I thought that the O2 was back in the game.
BTW, even though I have no coding skills, I would like to contribute to the project. Maybe I can contribute to update the English manual or translate it to Spanish or something like that?
Please let me know if I could be of any help.

Hallo Matthias,
wenn sich also außer der äußeren Hülle und dem USB-Anschluss nichts ändert, warum dann der Aufwand? So was macht man ja eigentlich nicht nur „just for fun“…
Grüße
Mark
P.S.: Das neue Design sieht aber nicht schlecht aus…:)

The 2N looks nice but after spending the money I'm happy to say I prefer the MK2 styling
