Updating OSTC Mk2 Firmware from v1.60

Hi,

I am trying to upgrade my OSTC Mk2 from it's current v1.60 to the latest firmware.

I have followed the (Firmware update: How to) process on the sticky on this forum. I am at the point where I have the OSTC connected to my laptop, I have the V1 of the booloader opened.
  • Where do I find the required .Hex file?
  • How do I then use the bootloader to locate the .hex file and upload it to the OSTC?
Thanks in advance for for any help and assistance.

Hi,

Inside the zip package here: http://www.heinrichsweikamp.com/en/ostc_2n/firmware/ (The zip file is called mk2_v201.zip)

Unpack the zip and locate the .HEX with "Browse".

-> Continue here:

- Choose correct COM-Port in the bootloader (The bootloader searches all COM-Ports automatically)
- In the OSTC Mk.2 Reset Menu, choose "Reboot OSTC" and confirm
- Click "write" at the bootloader within 10 seconds
- Wait about 1min.
- Don't panic if you have a "Please Wait" after the successful update for about 9 minutes...

Matthias

Thanks Matthias,

I have followed the process. I am up to the point of "re-booting" and clicking "write" on the bootloader. There were 4 COM ports showing on the drop down menu.

I have pasted below the text from the bootloader....

Could not connect to COM1 at 115200
ERROR!

Could not connect to COM2 at 115200
ERROR!

Connected to \\.\COM3 at 115200
Searching for PIC ...Not found,
ERROR!

Could not connect to COM4 at 115200
ERROR!

Connected to \\.\COM3 at 115200
Searching for PIC ...Not found,
ERROR!

Connected to \\.\COM3 at 115200
HEX: 3 days old, INHX32,18Fcode+cfg, total=81556 bytes.
Searching for PIC ...Not found,
ERROR!

I then had "Building MD2 Hash Please Wait" on the OSTC screen, but the unit is still on v1.60.

Hi,

when you have the list of COM-ports open and you unplug and plug-in the OSTC then the port you have to use will disappear and show simultaniously on this list.

To upgrade from 1.6 you need the older bootloader V1 i believe.

If is says 115200, then you are using Bootloader v2.

Your OSTC (still running pre-1.90 firmware) is currently only compatible with bootloader v1. And will need a reset to start loading the firmware, as described by Matthias above.

See that post too.
Best regards,

Thanks all for your continued assistance.

I believe I am using BootloaderV1....

"Bootloader for HeinrichsWeikamp OSTC,
based on TinyBootLoader, v.1.9.5 written by claudiu.chiculita@ugal.ro
http://www.etc.ugal.ro/cchiculita/softw ... loader.htm
Support: info@heinrichsweikamp.com"

I have followed Matthias instructions. When I click on "write" on the bootloader after selecting reboot from the OSTC menu, this is still the response on the bootloader.....

Connected to \\.\COM3 at 115200
HEX: 12 days old, INHX32,18Fcode+cfg, total=81556 bytes.
Searching for PIC ...Not found,
ERROR!

Hi,

115200 is wrong, maybe you have a corrupted tinybld.ini or no tinybld.ini at all. Please copy the attached tinybld.ini into the folder you have extracted "tinybldWin.exe" to.
