Non responding unit

Post by Francois »

Hello,

My OSTC 2N has been off for several month (new baby boy!).
When trying to switch it on yesterday I had a white flash then black screen. I connected it to my computer to charge the battery. I just had the orange led flashing. When pressing the button: again a white flash then black screen.
This morning after a full night charging the orange led was still flashing. I disconnected it from my computer... and now the screen is black, no orange led anymore even when I plug it again to the computer. The computer doesn't see the unit. The firmware is the one installed when I bought the unit (in May 2011).

I hope you can help! I bought the computer when I couldn't dive because of the birth of my baby, and now that I can go back in the water I cannot switch it on :(

Thanks,
Francois

Hi,

The LED has some low-level debug functionality, e.g. if the battery has been discharged very deeply.

Is it flashing once/second, twice/second or three times every 10 seconds?

To start, you can also hard-reboot the unit with a magnet near the mid-screw at the back of the unit. USB must be attached in order to reboot it this way. Most likely, the unit will show some debug informations (A few numbers and letters) then, please write this down.

Matthias

When I plug it to the computer, it is twice per second.
When I press the right button, the screen has a single white flash, then the orange led is flashing once per second for a minute or two and then back to two flashes per second.

I will try to find a magnet and provide the info displayed.

Thanks,
Francois.

Doesn't look good :(
I tried with the magnet.

When I put the magnet behind the unit, it is black no flash at all.
As soon as I remove the magnet:
- the screen flashes white once
- 10 rapid orange flashes in a row
- a pause of about 3 seconds - no lights at all
- the screen flashes white once again
- orange flashes, one per second during about 10 seconds
- then back to 2 rapid orange flashes per second

When disconnected from the computer, no led. If I press the right button, a white flash on the screen then nothing more, even if I press the button again.

Apart from the white flashes mentioned above, the screen stays desperately black...

Anything else I can try? Or is the only option to send the unit back to you?

Thanks for your help,
François.

Ok, I had the same behaviour the other day when the update process went wrong.
I just found a magnet (not so easy in an hotel room!) and made this procedure:
* plug the OSTC to the computer
* launch Jdivelog, prepare it to flash the device
* put the magnet under the OSTC and remove it
* flash the firmware
* wait a minute (or two)

It may work with the Bootloader V1 but I haven't tested it.

François, if you still have problems, send me an email (stephane POINT acounis @ free POINT fr).

Hi,

I'd recommend to shorten this by sending it to us (Or your dealer) directly. It could be just a Firmware update issue - but it could also be some kind of hardware defect. In both cases, this should be cleared quickly at our place. We always keep some units for warranty replacements, so no need to wait.

Matthias

Bonjour,

bonjour Christophe,

je me permets de traduire ton message

Hello,

sorry to write in French but my English is too old and too academic.
If there is a good guy for translating ...
I'm using this post because I think I have the same problem as François.

I also bought a 2N OSTC end of 2011.
It currently has six dives.

Today I connected my OSTC to my PC and I opened OSTC Planner to change the values ??of GF.
And then, OSTC dived to 93m, all of a sudden one
and it remains there (no way to go back)

There are no yellow LED blinking, just the blue one behind the "e" of Weikamp.

OSTC is visible on my PC (com port 37); but I can not "dialogue" with OSTC Planner neither JDIVE LOG.

I have used magnets on the back part of the computer, without success.

how can I do?

thanks for your help"

With USB power attached? It will only work when USB power is present.

bonjour

Connection COM37
ECHEC: Downloading OSTC configuration

je peux afficher les menus normaux de l'OSTC

je n'ai plus "qu'" à attendre la déssaturation de l'ordi et voir (je plonge vendredi, samedi et dimanche prochains

merci de votre aide

amicalement

Translate ;)

"hello

the issue is resolved : OSTC was not recognized by OSTC PLANNER

I started jdive log, went to "dive computer" and rebooted the data decompression
the screen came back to normal (with the orange LED that flashes with a shot per second), the "stack" yellow (CNS at 255 lol) and dessat for 85h39

but OSTC planner still displays in the right window :
Connection COM37
ECHEC: Downloading OSTC configuration

I can display the menus in the OSTC

I do have to wait and see for desaturation, I dive Friday, Saturday and Sunday

thank you for your help

friendly"

Sorry for interruption but: Does every OSTC 2N have such an LED? Where is it located and why didn't i read about it in the manual?

Yes, all 2N and Mk.2 have these. They do not show any important informations when in normal use. They're only for debugging and trouble shooting.

Thanks Matthias. Could that LED also be used to show the charging status of the battery during charging? Normally i plug my OSTC on my Computer and unplug it after a while - without knowing if the OSTC is fully charged or not, unless i turn it on...

The orange LED blinks on my 2N when charging ever half second or so. When I have Desat I get to blue LED flashing.

Nice shot :) ;)
Did you have to turn on any special settings for that? My OSTC never showed something like this, not during charging and not during desaturation nor anything... :-(
