Unit stuck during FW upgrade !

Hi all

I just tried to upgrade to 2.21, using the tiny bootloader v2. I have successfully used it in a recent past to load the two previous versions of the firmware. No problems whatsoever then.

I downloaded the hex file using the bootloader "web download" function. It said; "donwloaded the v2.21 ..."

I did the connection check and it was OK, "found PIC...", and the OSTC was in "Bootloader please wait" mode.

Pressed "Update Firmware" ....

But during the upgrade the bootloader said: "writing flash ... cannot write, ERROR"

And now the OSTC is stuck, black screen.

What can I do ?

Did you try to reset it with a Magnet on the back while the Unit is connected to the pc?

Hi,

First: No panic! Something went wrong but you can recover the unit by yourself:

- Download Bootloader v1 program: http://www.heinrichsweikamp.com/de/ostc_2n/
- Choose correct HEX file in the bootloader file dialog: "Browse"
- Choose correct COM-Port in the bootloader (The bootloader searches all COM-Ports automatically)
- The reset can be triggered with a magnet on the back of the OSTC Mk.2. "Reboot OSTC" and the magnet have the exact same effect on the OSTC Mk.2
- Press "write" at the bootloader within 10 seconds after resetting with the magnet
- Wait about 1min.

funny... the same thing happend to my MK2 yesterday. did it (yesterday) exaktly like Matthias wrote in the post before... everything is ok

i whish everything would be so easy to recover after a firmware-update-error.

i like my MK2 more and more and more

S U C C E S S ! ! !

The procedure worked. It came back to life and runs v2.21 now !

The only issue was locating a strong enough magnet. The refrigerator-type didn't do it. A magnetized screwdiver did !
