Gas List feature request

Hi,

I've a day off from diving up here in Donegal, Ireland and have just been practicising CCR bailouts in simulator mode prior to a deep dive tomorrow 115m.

I'm diving 10/70 diluent and carry 2 bailout cylinders 10/70 and 20/30.

The rest of the emergency gas is provided by three drop sets of cylinders from the dive boat:

Deep: 18/45 and 25/30
Intermediate: 25/30 and 50/15
Shallow: 50/15, 80% and 100%

Now i'm not here to debate our bailout strategy :-) but I tried to run through the scenario with the OSTC with some interesting results

Of course I cannot program in all those bailout gases because the device is limited to 5 gases. 10 would be much nicer please!!!

In simulator mode I do notice a Gas 6 which is set to be the same as Gas 5 but with controls to allow to increase and decrease the Oxygen and Helium percentage. OK this is a good workaround to not having enough gases. I will have plenty of time to program the shallow gases on the bailout schedule.

On my device I have the following gases set:

G1: 10/70 (diluent and left hand bailout cylinder)
G2: 20/30 (right hand bailout cylinder)
G3: 18/45 (first drop set cylinder)
G4: 25/30 (second drop set cylinder)
G5: 50/15 (third drop set cylinder)
G6: 50/15 (same as G5)

Anyway with the simulation I ran I tried to customise G6 from 50/15 to 100%

When I increased the Oxygen percentage it went to 85% max because the Helium was still set to 15% so then I decreased the Helium % to 0 and then increased the Oxygen percentage to 100% or rather that did not work.

It went 98, 99, 4, 5...

There was no way to set 100% exactly

Also when I "increased" it from 99 to 4 there was no way back to 99 by pressing the - option and I had to count all the way back up to 99 again.

So in summary:

1. Please add support for 10 gases in total
2. Please allow setting Gas 6 to 100%
3. Please allow "rollover" from 100 to 0 and back again
4. Please remove the 130m software shutdown :-)

You most problably should be looking at the HW DR5.

Its a true CCR Dive Computer that supports 10 gases.

I disagree. i have no interest in having the device monitor P02 or the pricetag of a DR5

I am also much happier with the fact that there are many OSTC units out there being regularly dived and the software bugs are being methodically found and fixed and regular updates issued.

There is no reason why the OSTC cannot be a "true CCR computer". In fact it already is!

@ smcmullan

HW is still working on a gaslist with 10 gases

So it all got something to do with price then?

Yes. I've owned OSTC Mk2 and 2N and they work perfectly well as a secondary CCR computer for me on many dives from 50m - 125m. They have suited my application perfectly and where I can see an improvement I make the suggestion via a post on this forum. I have no need or desire to "upgrade" to a DR5 just to close a very very small gap.

So exactly what is your point Hansjoerg?

Thanks Uwe. Good to hear this.

My point is, to close your small gap to safe you money we get 10 gases that most people who use 2N's don't need. The DR5 has already 10 gases but that unit is to expenisve for you.

Thats my point.

Instea of starting a new thread for this you may want to place you request in this thread:
My wishlist for MKII/2N
Although its Solodivers thread its a rather good collection of wishes for the 2N.

And you can run VPM - or even Multideco - on it!

See http://www.hhssoftware.com/multideco-dr5/index.html

For certain kind of dives i would invest in the DR5...

For me it would make more sense to have a seperate gas list (5 gases is more then enough) for OC (+Bailout) and CCR (Diluent). No one with sane uses 10gases OC for a 120m dive but three diluents and three (different) bailout gases are usual.

One reason more to think about separate firmwares for OC and CC...

Why? Please clarify.

A "CCR firmware" would need full OC capabilities anyway (Bailout), so this makes no sense. Only the menu structure or some display outputs can be different. Under the hood it's basically the same.

Matthias

Hallo Matthias,

wann können wir denn mit der Erweiterung von 10 Gasen rechnen? Wenn ja, können wir dann auch den PPo2 für Gase einzelln einstellen?

Gruß Uwe

I would also vote for a different gaslist for oc and cc to keep the different menus als simple as possible. In my opinion 5 gases are absolutely enough for OC.

Well look at the competition - Vr3/VRX/NHE03, Liquivision X1 and APD Vision computers all allow 10 preset gases. I admit that the Shearwater Predator does 5.

Another way of looking at it is that I am not talking about using 10 gases on any particular dive but you have the option of presetting *ALL* the gases you are ever likely to use and you can activate them or deactivate them on a per dive basis as required.

Last but not least I highlighted that I think there is a bug in the incrementing/decrementing of O2/He% in G6. It would be a shame if that got lost in all this discussion about 10 gas presets.

@Stephen

You can always go to https://bitbucket.org/heinrichsweikamp/ ... ode/issues and create an issue there. It shouldn't get forgotten then.

And the Shearwater has 5 OC and 5 CC gases, total 10 gases.

Hi,

We've talked with some CCR divers about this. They all recommend to have diluent gases and OC gases separated.

I agree, no one uses 10 gases simultaneously for a 120m dive. So, I'd vote for five extra gases available for the diluent in CCR mode here...

The OSTC is already quite complicated and 10 OC gases will only increase the possibilities of user errors without having a reasonable benefit.
Keeping in mind the amount of preparations required for a five-gas multi-gas dive the setup time in the OSTC is not really an issue.

Cheers,
Matthias

Hallo Matthias,

Hello Matthias,

would it be possible to get 5 bottom gases + 3 Deco gases for OC and 5 diluent gases for CCR to be implemented. So we could set the ppO2 separately for bottom and Deco gases, eg bottom gas 1.2 or 1.4 and 1.6 for Deco gases. Then it would be nice to have the ppO2 warning separately for bottom and Deco gases.

Regards Uwe
