Ostc battery lifte time

Post by Obu44 »

Hello,

What is the Life time of the battery of the ostc2n for an average of 50 dives/ year? There is à lot of questions concerning the fact the user is not allowed to change this battery himself but is There somebody Who had to do a replacement?
(Also for the mk2).

I think about 5-7 years should be realistic. In most cases, you will not even notice a slight decrease in battery capacity so it may even last longer.

We have made some effort to prolong the battery life:
- we don't recharge it to 100% (Only to about 95%)
- temperature-controlled charging circuity
- independent under-voltage and over-charging protection
- use of high quality Panasonic cells
- current draw of the OSTC and charging current is way below allowed cell's current

As for the replacement: We charge 29EUR+shipping when a replacement will be required.

I see the same Li-Ion cells being used in industrial applications, where they are being used in a much harsher fashion, and cell failures usually occur after about 6-7 years.

Treating the cell nicely like HW does, I expect >10years of use before mass failures start occurring.

I'd be more worried about dead pixels in the display after years of use B)-
