Repairing after some sea water got in

Post by joemcd »

Hi,

Some sea water got in past the cap on a recent dive. The screen and everything was 100% fine though. I tried to let it dry out for a few hours in Egyptian heat. However, when I connected it to the computer it seems to charge (flashing orange light) but neither windows nor OSX can find it. I tried a different cable but no change. Any ideas as to what I could do? Thanks!

Apply a litle bit of contact spray. But unfortunately it may be too late now, as sea water results in corrosion of the contacts. The unit itself is completely sealed, so the unit won't even flood if you dive without the cap. If the spray doesn't fix the problem, you should ship the unit to Heinrichsweikamp and ask for repair.

Most important is to not connect it to the PC unless it has been rinsed with fresh water and dried again. All contacts are gold coated but with sea water and charging current they will corrode quickly...

And just to make sure you never get into the trouble of loosing the screw cap.
Order two from HW as spares. Just do be on the save side.

That's exactly what I'm going to do. I can't go diving and show off the amazing screen without one ;-)

I think if you buy two screw caps from HW you get also a screen protector.
A screen protector is really a must and the original one from HW is just perfect.
