Backup light on OSTC

Post by Dima »

Hello,

I am a very happy user of the OSTC since almost 2 years, and I think it's almost perfect.

I was wondering if it could be possible to add a "backup light" function that would turn all the screen in white except the text that would be written in black to keep computer's information readable.

It could be useful when the primary light turn out of battery during a night dive for example.

What do you think?

Actually not a bad idea. Its alread almost bright enough as an absolut emergency light cave diving.

I wonder how much energy the almost completely white display would consume!? It would be a nice feature, but only if it is made sure, that the battery will still last until surfacing then.

I prefere to have the decompression informatons rather than a light.
If the light empties the battery then ...

The ascent can be done in the dark, the ostc is readable in the dark.

Yes, but when you travel you maybe don't want to bring 2 lights with you.

And Rob, the deco information would be still readable written in black.

But not when the battery is empty.
Sorry, for my point to view this "light" is dangerous crap.

Hi,

A full white screen exceeds the current limits for several voltages generated in the OSTC. Besides that, to follow a cave line the OSTC is already bright enough. We heard reports that a cave instructor had to cover the OSTC with duct tape for out-of-light trainings...

for me too
OSTC is a diving computer, not a backup light

when you travel, a backup light like this one is not so heavy and not so expensive : 140g with battery

@Matthias
I have had the same experience. The OSTC is very distracting during black out training. I had to cover it as well.

Ok I didn't expect that.
Let's forget the idea.
