Apnoe mode?

I maybe being stupid, but I can't find anywhere that says what Apnoe mode is.

Can somebody describe what this is?
Is it possibly Apnoe -> Apnea -> Breath Holding -> Free-diving?

Yes, Apnoe is German for Apnea.
