OSTC 2 - bluetooth issue
OSTC 2 - bluetooth issue
Hi,
I have the new OSTC 2 and I use a macbook pro (Yosemite 10.10.4). I try to connect the OSTC 2 to my computer. After 4-5 trials, I finally did it (but the bluetooth connection is not very stable).
Unfortunately I was not able to download the dives (subsurface, macdive). I also tried to update the firmware using OSTC Companion, OSTC-Planner and SubSurface. Every time, it failed.
Have you got the same issue? Is my OSTC 2 defective?
It would be good to test your devices before selling them...

Re: OSTC 2 - bluetooth issue
Hi,
I have also OSTC 2 and MacBook Pro Yosemine 10.10.4
If this can help:
To make work the Bluetooth connection, I have to:
- Activate Bluetooth on OCTC 2
- Activate Bluetooth on Mac
- Go to the Mac Bluetooth proprieties and Connect OSTC 2
-> OSTC will be "Connected" when in use and "Not connected" when in standby
- In OSTC Companion v1.200.0 I have to set the OSTC2 computer and in settings choose the port "tty.OSTCxxxxx-SPP"
I also installed FTDIChip driver v2.3 (2015-04-15) for OSTC 2C, but I'm not shure if Bluetooth still needs it.
-> OSTC 2 Bluetooth connection resets after few minutes, so I have to re-enable it if needed
N.B. The last MacDive released today has OSTC 2 bluetooth Log Download using it's drivers

This is not necessary and only required for USB OSTC's.

Re: OSTC 2 - bluetooth issue
I tried your way Boris but It is still impossible for me to upload the firmware... Matthias any idea? It was much easier with the USB cable

Re: OSTC 2 - bluetooth issue
Use a good bluetooth dongle. My mac have a crappy built in bluetooth thingie wich is un-usable. I use €7 usb-dongle which works great.
Make sure the battery is fully charged.
Keep your device and dongle close.

Please read the thread above (I merged your thread into this one) and try to explain the issues a bit more detailed. Something like error messages, your system and so on...

Not for us, unfortunately. We got computers with non-working USB ports and ask ourselves what happened.
Then we saw the cable the user used...

Compared to this some Bluetooth issues are not a big deal. Since we use the exact same tools to update the units here (With MAC and Win7/Win10 computers - no special tools, no special software) I can guarantee the Bluetooth parts in the OSTC's are working. Due to the big amount of different configurations (OS, Bluetooth chipsets and other software installed) there are cases where connection may be difficult.
I can assure you we test before shipping - actually I test most of the units by myself.

Matthias

No, you don't need the "Bootloader v2", you need the companion. Please check this link on how to update: read.php?6,14509

Re: OSTC 2 - bluetooth issue
You need to pair the device with the computer first. You do not need FTDI drivers at all.

THE DEVICE AND 'ASSOCIATE !!!
Re: OSTC 2 - bluetooth issue
@tnr77:
I had the same problem. I even bought a second Bluetooth-Dongle because I thought the dongle was the reason.
In my opinion it's a compatibility problem on PC with Windows 7 or 8 and probably also with Windows 10.
Try the compatibility troubleshooter of your Windows system and let the program run on your program file "OSTC Companion.exe".
I tried several possibilities and now Companion is working fine.

Re: OSTC 2 - bluetooth issue
I can confirm also in my case that the PC/MAC bluetooth work somehow and that we assume the problems on OSTC side.
Even on virtual windows on MAC Yosememite the blutooth up/downlink works fine for speakers, mics, keyboards, mouse, Windows phone file share (up and download) and and and.
May be the MACs are well known for their crappy design, but in these cases they work.
I also tested on other windows machine with several software. All the same outcome.
Other than OSTC devices work ok.

Re: OSTC 2 - bluetooth issue
I also have an OSTC2, and just cannot get it to work either with Companion or Subsurface. It shows as paired with my windows 10 desktop computer, and I have tried several different bluetooth dongles, but I always get a 'writeblock error' whichever port I use. This is really exasperating, as I am unable either to update the firmware, or download divelogs.

Hi AMM2T,
Please try the following:
- Goto to Setup -> Reset Menu
- Choose "reboot" and confirm
- When the "Play" button shows, repeatedly press the right button until the Bluetooth icon appears
-> That will have the Bluetooth chip resettet. Make sure to re-pair the unit after that.

Matthias
