Thought i'd seperate the OSTC Mk II discussion from the DR5.
The specification -

The OSTC Mk.2 will not have a Fischer connector and only Fixed SetPoint CCR with 3 Setpoints is available. This is basically the functions you'll have with the Standard-OSTC1 now. Here's a list of features integrated into the OSTC Mk.2:

- Open Source Firmware with full schematic of the hardware
- 5 Preconfigured Trimix gases + 1 Trimix configurable during the Dive
- Fixed SetPoint CCR (Three Setpoints + 5 Bailouts)
- Excellent PC Software Support with JDiveLog and Divinglog
- 40 Custom Functions (See: [www.heinrichsweikamp.net] )
- User replaceable Li-Ion Battery with coin-slot battery cover
- Battery life > 30h at maximum brightness in Divemode
- Charges via any USB Port within 4 hours
- 2,4" (6.1cm) OLED Display
- Two additional status and warning LEDs
- 4mm highly scratch-resistant borosilicate Glass display
- Electronics completely encapsulated, no airspace left to crush or flood
- Two Piezo-electric Switches, usable even with extra thick gloves
- high-tech flex-velcro wristband
- 70 x 65 x 29 mm (width x height x depth)
- Weight 160g

It's bad news that OSTC Mk.II hasn't Fisher connector.
I've been planned to buy OSTC, but for now with OSTC was obsolete and
coice between OSTC Mk.II and DR5 my choice moving to Shearwater...
It cost me dear, but less than DR5. Hope you understand that many
your cusomers and future customers being moving out of OSTC due to
your customer-unfriendly politics...

HW is one of the company's wich are very customer-friendly. They adapt the firmware of their computers to the choice of the divers = customers.
Problems are solved very fast and correctly.
Fast responce times on this forum.
Direct contact with the developers
and its ...OPEN

just buy the OSTC (not MKII) if you want the Fisher connecter. 1/3 of the price of the shearwater

OSTC referred as "Sold out", no availability date known.
Refurbished or used OSTC - no, thanks.
Also, their open-source politics is only theirs choice.
But for now (i think) they force customers to buy DR5.
Also, no comments from Matthias.
If i'm still wrong, please reply, where i can purchase brand new OSTC
and how much it cost?

Hello,

What kind of comment should I post? The OSTC1 are no longer available - we needed to change to a new OLED display and this required a re-design. In the design review we decided to replace the pricey Fischer components in the OSTC with a normal USB socket in the OSTC Mk.2. New mold is done and payed so we absolutely can not change this decision now - and we have no plans to do it.
If you feel "forced" to buy a DR5, I'm sorry for that. If you need a CCR compatible computer with monitoring, there are alternatives on the market.

Yeah, that's truth The OSTC1 are no longer available
OSTC Mk.2 cannot be connected to mCCR/KISS
So, choice is between DR5 for 1,5kEuro, alternatives on the market
such as Shearwater SPOCTE for 1,5k$ (or something else KISS-compatible)
Matthias, i'm so sad that you go this way. My best wishes and hopes are
that in some time i got enough money to buy OSTC, and now all that was lost...
Hope you change your opinion about low-cost mCCR-compatible computer.

Why not get a secondhand OSTC? That would be even cheaper!

As far as the OSTC1, and I only ask this as being that its open source, would it be possible for someone else to copy all of the hardware and make a new run? If so, are all the necessary drawings and parts use obtainable?:)

No, the OSTC Firmware has no lock-out mode at all.

what's about the DR5 ? I used the ostc with the fischer connector and can say, that it has more connections and housings, that can fail (it happened to me).

The DR5 has a direct connections between the sensors and the computer (only one wire or wireless).It has powerful hardware for better o2 monitoring and you can use the ostc.mk.2 (or your existing ostc) for decompression backup calculation, if you want.

If you are seeking for diving computer with o2 monitoring and decompression calculation with the possibility to dive trimix and much more features, i think the DR5 is the best platform (computer) to do this job. The price is comparable with other computer on the market (with the actual feature list, it's even cheaper than other computers), but it has also the potentiality to grow with your requirements.

Please show me an other computer, where you can write an email to the manufactor with your functional requirements and you get this function within a few weeks or you develop it by you own (if you have the ability to do this).

I think, for technical and rebreather diving the DR5 is a very scalable, perfect platform.

The DR5 Wireless modul is a 230KHz with magnetic "H-field" signalling or new standard at 430MHz, which is a pass-band in water like new competitor?
