OSTC3 - FW upgrade unsuccesfull

Post by aerea »

I have OSTC3 with FW: 1.92 and I want to upgrade it to latest version.

I observe that out of the 3 computers I have, only 2 will find the OSTC3 as a Bluetooth device.
However, I am not able to configure FTDI VCP to be working
The OSTC3 constantly switches off and disconnects before doing anything in the OSTC Companion App.

I am using
- Macbook Pro M2Pro w MacOS X 15.0
- PC with Win11 (which cant find OSTC despite having BL5.0 HW)
- PC with Win10 (which has the same BL HW and can pair with the OSTC3, but will not connect after disconnection, nor allow me to configure FTDI VCP...

Is the a guide on how to do it either on Mac Or Win PC?

The MacBook running latest OS Sequoia is not able to finish connection. I am able to pair the devices but once I try to connect I see a spinner and connection is never established.
Any ideas how to solve this issue?

Second issue is FTDI VCP drivers installation, but this is premature since I am not able to connect and keep connection open.
I was able to connect exactly once and the connection was reset from OSTC3 side when the device went to sleep.

Hello,

because you have already contacted us in parallel with the same questions by email, here is just a brief summary:
- FTDI drivers are only needed for the really old USB-OSTC
- Update via app. This is described in detail here viewtopic.php?t=14509 (further down are the articles for the iOS app)
- In this context, please refer again to the FAQ: https://heinrichsweikamp.com/index.php/service/faq

Hello Matthias,

I tried all that you are suggesting.
As per the documentation, the OSTCConf iOS app should support only the current computer lineup. OSTC3 is not supported or listed as supported.
P.S. OSTC Conf iOS app is not listed in https://heinrichsweikamp.com/index.php/service/software

There are two OSTC3 options in OSTC Companion. OSTC & OSTC+
with no explanation available and using the graphics, I am guessing that OSTC3 is the original USB version and OSTC3+ is a Bluetooth version

The problem with macOS X OSTC Companion is that I cannot select a port using the gear button.
Clicking on a cog button doesn't do anything, nor can I use the dot button.
I found the OSTC3 port name using the Terminal "ls /dev/tty.*"
/dev/tty.OSTC304571 ~ this is, however, different from the /dev/tty.OSTC304571-SPP, you listing in FAQ it should be named.
I was able to enter it manually the port name "tty.OSTC304571" into OSTC Companion App and "Connect" button start doing something...
However, all Retry timeouts

After Bluetooth Reboot (as per FAQ) the connection to port still timeouts...
after 10 attempts it shows "Port tty.OSTC304571: Unable to enter hwOS service mode"

Now, while the "Play" sign and the Heinrichs Weikamp logo can be seen, (for OSTC3: Keep right button pressed) until the Bluetooth symbol appears. After a few seconds you can restart the OSTC with the left button.
DONE. Working. Can you connect to OSTC3+ while in service mode?

What Bluetooth HW version is used in OSTC3+?

MacOS X Sequioa (Latest) 15.0
OSTC3 SN: 4571 FW:1.92

Thanks
Jan

Hi,

The iOS App "OSTConf" from the Appstore will update your OSTC3 with Bluetooth and your current 1.93 just fine. Give it a try, please.

Matthias
