Few questions from potential user

Post by gorcio »

Hi,
I am considering getting MK2 as my prime computer for TMX diving, however, need answer to few questions :
1. how's usability in thick dry gloves ?
2. how's screen readability under angle view ? some claim there are reflections preventing it from being readable
3. what's the battery type if one wants to replace it ?
4. how's USB port secured ? same coin-type screw, or just a plug ?

The biggest question - how's the stock and how long does it take to get one :-) ?
Kind regards,
Gorcio, OSTC MK2 828

1) very good, nice big buttons which are even usable with very cold hands
2) in dark water even buddy can read my computer, readability in fe egypt at the surface is bad because of reflections of the sun --> mirror effect. So you need to hold your computer under a certain angle or hold your hand above it

1: see Steves answer
2: under europeen conditions no problems jet. My buddy is always looking on my OSTC when he wants to know how deep we are, because he can easyer read my diplay as his own Uwatec
3: Li-Ion Akku
4: Plug with tree o-rings.

Greetings

Thanks both of You but could You specify :

When You have screen directly in from on Your eyes, or also when tilted, for instance 45 degrees ?

> 3: Li-Ion Akku

Any standard size to be replaced with rechargeable and charged with normal charger ? I'd rather avoid open USB port for charging, as it seems to be a week point

> 4: Plug with tree o-rings.

Hmmm, I don't like it. Why not making it coin-screw, like accu compartment ? I suppose there will always be a bit of air under the plug, which will compress/expand and I suppose sooner or later it will leak ...

Anyways - I am still interested ...

2) even with 178° it's readable (as long as you can see the screen, you can read it) and i even have a protective cover and a protective foil on it.

sorry, but if I would have the screen directly in front of my eyes I would only see some red and white lights because I'm hyperopic ;) But belefe us, visibility is realy no problem!

3/4: Why not a plug? Why do you want to screw something? The chance to twist the o-ring and get a leakage is quite big too.

The air under the plug ist not a problem. It will be compressed by the plug when you descent and it will decompress if you surface... It will only leak if you scratch the facing or if the o-ring is polutet or damaged.

Hello,

The OSTC Mk.2 uses a 18500 Lithium battery with custom protection protection pcb. A replacement battery will cost about 15-20EUR.

It's a straight plug, but it won't come off easy.

Ask again in about 2 weeks ;-)

1. No Problem, it works with thick wet gloves (5..7mm).
2. Absolutely no problem, excellent display, by any angle.
3. Ask me in about 6 years, then I'll know, is (or is not) this type of battery still available ;-) I think, it is no practical problem (now).
4. "Hmmm, I don't like it. Why not making it coin-screw, like accu compartment ? I suppose sooner or later it will leak ... "
I don't like it too. But I think, the problem is NOT "plug or screw", but I hope, my computer will leak... later.
Anyway, i don't like opening the usb-plug by a knife... (or by a tin-opener, or?).

"Anyways - I am still interested ..."
Yes, I'm interested too (but I'm not sure)...

For removing the USB plug i use a Scorpion trim tool (one on the far left)
Being made of nylon they will not damage the plug or body of the computer.

Hello,

If it's in stock we ship out immediately but since a dozen of suppliers are involved we make the OSTC Mk.2 in batches. The next batch won't be ready before end of may, sorry.

I already had the opportunity to see and test dive the MK2 and I must say I'd realy liked it.
If there shuld be any thing to change, my list would be like this.

1- Dive time in large digits, same size as dept. In my way of diving I look more often for bottomtime, I always has reasonable track on the depth.

2- In dive mode, when stopwatch is ativated from the menu for deco purpose, posibility to reset directly from push of a button, without accsessing the menu.

3- Module for calculated PO2 (loop actual) for PASCR rebreather.

We are up for purchasing 2 or 3 units, any news on availability ?
