Two simple clicks to update firmware...erm!

Post by Bruce »

I am not a computer boffin and when I read on the forum that it's just two simple clicks to upgrade the OSTC 2N I thought to myself this is going to be easy!. Plugged the computer in, And tried with no success to upgrade anything. It certainly is nothing like the info on the web site.
Could somebody please explain in simple terms of how to upload the new firmware 2.0 onto my 2N which is 1.9.

Many thanks, Bruce

I am not a computer wizz either and tried without success to get the boot loader to work. Then I used Jdivelog and have upgraded from 1.8 to 1.9 and now to 2.0 without any problems at all. I downloaded the update file into a folder and then copied the appropriate Hex into the same folder. Then I started up Jdivelog and it went fine.

Hi,

Downloading, unzipping and installing a windows program (The bootloader v2) is an additional task before the two clicks.

Describe what you have tried so far and we'll get this working here quickly :-)

Greetings once again from Australia!

Well I called in a dive buddy who knows his way around a computer.....And now have a successful upgrade to 2.0 on my 2N. He clicked the right clicks and made my attempts look very sad. Yes it is a simple task to complete but by the time 2.1 is out I'll be getting my dive buddy back for a cup of coffee.....and oh while your here show me that trick again with the computer lol.

Thanks for the help guys!

Hey Hansjoerg,

We are in sunny Geelong, Victoria. And Springtime is the season here at the moment. Variable wind is our biggest pain in the arse this time of year. Isn't it strange how the swell seems to dip through the week but bring on the week-end up it comes!! We dive all year around and still cant seem to blow enough bubbles! We are blessed with a wonderful diversity of diving. There are still many wrecks me and my OSTC are still to visit!

Hey Peter,

If she isn't a diver yet then I'll gladly put my hand up and teach her free of charge!!.....flights included!!......Maybe she could help me update the OSTC next time!

The current description for updating the firware is incorrect as it has changed with Bootloader ver 2

The steps are (for Windows 7 PC's):
1. Download and extract the latest Bootloader V2 for windows from this page: Software for 2n
2. Attach 2N to PC with the USB cable (can be used as a screwdriver to open the 2n port)
3. Run the Tinybldwin.exe (make sure 2N is switched on)
4. There is an option now for Web Download which downloads the latest binary update (currently 2.0)
5. Click Check Connection (this checks if the 2N is attached OK)
6. Click Update Firmware
7. WAIT and watch what the 2N screen says, Wait until the 2N has rebooted - this can take up to 5 mins.
Cheers,
DB

OSTC 2n of course :-)
