OSTC Planner - new decompression software.

Post by JeanDo »

Hello,

Just a post to signal a new software that can interest OSTC users: OSTC Planner is a PC version of the decompression code embedded in your dive computer firmware. With it, you can plan your dive more comfortably, plot various curves (ceilings, CNS, GF, etc.) and compare configurations.

I designed it first to develop, understand and test the latest features introduced since firmware version 1.80, and you might have seen various plots made to illustrate discussions in the forum. But, except for an agreement to share the decompression code, this software is completely independent from HeinrichsWeikamp.

The current version is only for PC under Windows (Seven, Vista or XP). You can download it there ostc-planner.net, and help support by buying an activation code for a tag price.

Enjoy,

Any chance for a Linux version as well? Is it open source?

Thx,

Hello,

I am curious to know the best plateform you would like for OSTC Planner: Please answer the quick poll in ostc-planner.net/wp/pools.

Thank you.

JD, your whole site seems to be down at the moment, just to let you know...

Update: Up again, would be nice to have several votes or to diveide between mobile and desktop. Would like to vote for Android also, Thx.

Dear JeanDo:

I've tried the planner. Very impressinve piece of software, very useful for planning. I will compare the plans with those generated by the GUE planer that I'm currently using. I will let you know my experience.

However, I also have a problem with the software: I'm unable to connect to my OSTC for downloading CFs. My OSTC is connected via USB. In DivingLog COM10 is reported which is also listed in the Windows device manager. For DivingLog Com10 works fine for both download and upload. However, the planner reports "Connecting COM10
FAILED: Downloading OSTC configuration". OSTC is switched on, DivingLog is closed.

Any ideas?
Regards

Peter

I've the same problem as PeterK. Other applications (tinybldWin and DivingLog) connected to my OSTC via USB reported as COM24, but OSTC Planner reports "Connecting COM24 FAILED: ..." (and for other COM ports too).
My environment is Win 7 Pro SP1 64-bit.

HI Jeando,

I have been unable to download the planner as my Norton security in my laptop has found a threat in it? Has anyone else encountered this problem?

I'm having same issues as PeterK as i bought up in the Preceeding thread re Backup Settings:

Hi

Thanks JD for the good bit of software kit! Installed Trial version of 155 and looks very swish..., one question before i purchae though, currently it will not let me download my OSTC CF settings, even though using same COM Port as my version of DivingLog which has no problems ( in fact tried all COM settings). Is this functionality disabled in the Trial version and becomes active on full purchase? I am running on an XP machine though ( will try on Win 7 )

On pressing the Download button:

Connecting COM( whatever com number i set to and have tried 1-16)
FAILED: Downloading OSTC configuration

I have managed to ge 1 of my units to download to a Win 7 machine, but no luck with either on an XP box. Both units are MK2 and not 2N

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers

I voted for MacOS too, but I would be happy to see a good OSTC Planner on iOS and Windows as well.

Like scubatinoo I will use my Mac at home, PC at the office and iOS on the run...

Anyway I'm very happy to see that planning the dives will be much more comfortable in future...:)

I voted for iOS so I could use it on the road which would be so awesome really.

I also wanted to vote for Mac OS as it is what I have at home (on my computer and maybe iPad soon -if my wife will be convincing enough for me to buy one) as I'd rather look at the planning on a 24" display rather than on a 3" display.

Too bad I couldn't choose more than 1 option.

Really great work. I love what you did with this so I bought it today :)

I'm no programmer guru, nor do I have any coding experience, but if you need some one to test the UI or anything, I'll gladly help.

@PeterK, @Jacek

I just run some tests:
* Seven 64bits, Mk.2 with 2.04 or 2.09 (english) : OK.
* Seven 64bits, 2N, 2.09 english : OK.
Rebooting to XP is more difficult, but Jacek have the same problem on Seven too...
And other users tested without problems XP or Vista.

On my machines, all Mk.2 always are COM4, and 2n are COM5. Which suggest another test: can you plug it somewhere else to have a smaller port number ?

Thanks for your patience,

My MK2 under XP for Bootloader/DivingLog etc always comes up as COM10
My MK2 under Win7( which works for OSTC-Planner) lists as COM3

On the XP machine I've tried all USB ports with all COM ( 1-16 ) and none work

Hi JeanDo,

As I stated earlier I am unable to download through my Norton Security system because the site is unregistered with Norton. Hopefully as more people use it you would consider registering with the security site as others may have the same problem if using Norton.

Dave,

I find it hard to believe that you cannot enter an exception in Norton Internet Security to download a file. Alternatively I am sure you can stop NIS download the SW and then start it again...

I don't know how I could change manually this number. In my laptop I have four USB ports and every one is mapped as COM24 (first free port number in registry?), but ...
I just updated software for 'USB Serial Port' driver, now USB is mapped (automagically :P) as COM6 and working with OSTC Planner too! :)
Thank you for your help :)

First of all: Problem solved, thanks guys.

Solution on my system (XP SP3) was to change COM port from 10 to 2. While 10 worked fine with diving log it didnt with the planner.

COM10 was selected automatically by the driver upon installation. However, I've managed to change using Windows device manager, section "connections (com and lpt)". There I have an entry called "USB serial port" with the port number in brackets. If you hit the right mouse button and pick properties you can change a lot of options. I left all on the defaults and just changed the port number. Funny enough it report all com ports from 3 to 9 as busy. But port 1 and 2 are reported as unused. However, I have not a single device connected through the com ports, funny. Anyway, I've changed to COM 2 and now planner and diving log are communicating with my OSTC using COM2.

Thanks to all for the helpful suggestions.

JeanDo: If I can help you with bug fixing just drop me an email. I'm more than happy to assist.
Regards

Peter

Looks like we have an XP COM port fix, re-assign through Device Manager to another COM port now works with Bootloader/DiveLog and OSTC-Planner

Thanks to you all for the heads up on this one!!

JeanDo, Money in the (paypal )post!!

Thanks

@PeterK

Super! Your procedure enables me to reproduce the bug here. And to discover that COM ports over 9 have the obvious name \\.\COM10 ... Don't ask :(

--> I just published a patch so this is working now. I made a few tests up to COM150 :)

You should be upgraded by tomorrow.
Thanks for the help !

Error: Update installation failed

The software started downloading the update, but then canceled the installation process because "a old version was found". i would have to deinstall the program first, before i can do the update... But then i can't do the update automaticaly ;-)
