This morning the postie brought me a new toy. An OSTC MKII, bought second hand with only three recorded dives on it, this made me happy.... until....
The firmware is 1.8 and I, obviously, am keen to update it to the latest stable and this is where the fun begins.
with Diving log 5.0 I can access and change the settings so there is two way communication through com 4, this much I know.
I have tried updating the firmware using Jdive and both bootloader V1 and V2. All three of these cannot find the open port, bootloader gives a can't find PIC error and Jdive just tells me the port and/or driver is not open/configured.
At first I thought the issue was somewhere between the chair and the keyboard but as I can alter things via dive log 5.0 I am not so sure.
I don't appear to be able to upgrade the firmware through dive log which brings me back full circle to bootloader... am I missing something obvious?
TIA

Re: Updating MKII firmware
Hi,
Check this step-by-step instructions: http://www.heinrichsweikamp.com/read.php?2,4071
There is a section beginning with "If you have firmware Reset Menu -> Reboot OSTC" within 10 seconds after clicking "write"
- Wait until all is done.
regards,
Matthias

Re: Updating MKII firmware
Thanks, that did the trick. I was rebooting then pressing write instead of the other way around...
My bad...
It is asking me to wait now so waiting I am

Re: Updating MKII firmware
If you're new to the OSTC, a "Menu -> Reset Menu -> Reset all" should follow to make sure everything is on default.

And next RTFM. Also you will find that most questions are answered in the Forum. First search then ask.

Re: Updating MKII firmware
Hi Paul,
My comment was meant to be tongue in cheek...
...sorry if it didn't come across like that.

Your question about FW updates is actually a quite common question, not because of the OSTC but because there is problems with the MAC / PC or in relation to jdivelog. For this reason the chance that you will find the correct answer in the forum for a very specific problem is relatively small (btw. jdivelog has its own forum).
The forum members are more than happy to help, including me. However if we do get questions which have been answered before we usually refer to the relevant forum entry anyway.
So there you go, enjoy a brilliant diving computer with a support from HW and this forum which would be hard to find for any other DC.
