Deco stop not counting down

Post by Touchwood »

Hi,

I've looked through previous threads on this subject but can't find a definitive answer so I'm posting a new thread.

I've noticed (as have other divers I know) that sometimes we'll get a deco stop on the OSTC that doesn't count down, in fact it never ends.

If I have a deco gas with an MOD of 10m but I'm not planning to change until 9m then the OSTC gives me a 1min stop at 10m that never ends. By moving to 9m and changing my gas the rest of the stops are completed without trouble.

I have seen this mentioned in a previous thread in January of this year but as I said no definitive answer was provided.

I have CF55 set to '1' for the gas switch.

I am running v2.50 of the OSTC firmware.

Thanks

Wenn ich mich nicht täusche wurde das mit 2.21 behoben.

Hi,

I could not reproduce this with the 2.50. Can you describe the (gas)setup more detailed, please?

Hi,

when CF55 is set to on then the OSTC will wait for the gasswitch indefinitely on the set switchdepth for this gas.

Either set your your switch-depth of the gas in question to your preferred switchdepth ( 9 mtr. in this your case ) or deactivate CF55.

CF55 is only adjusting the TTS plus the value set with CF55 for each stop, nothing else.

I deactivated CF55 as 3 or 5 minutes additional switchtime is mostly not of much relevance for the total TTS.

Thanks for the swift replies guys.

Matthias, my gas setup is:

G1 *TX 18/40 at 0m
G2 NX 32 at 36m
G3 NX 80 at 10m

Please let me know your thoughts.

Reiner, thanks for the explanation. For the time being I'll change the MOD of the gas to my planned switch depth or else deactivate CF55.

The gas-switch stop will clear, when you ascend. ie: With a switch set at 21m, it clears when I have ascended to 18m.

With CF55 set to 1 minute. Using V2.50

Gassetup:
G1: NX28 (travel)
G2: TX21/28 (bottom)
G3: NX49 (deco)

I think this is intend. If you don't switch it clear's only if you go above the stop. I use use it with CF55=1 two to three times a week and since V1.95 (?) it's working fine.

I would suggest to call this gas switch stop "GasSwitch" instead of "Decostop" to avoid confusion.

Hi, yes, I understand that it will clear if you ascend but, until you know this, it is a little unnerving to say the least. I think the trouble is that it is not clear that this stop is a gas change stop rather than a deco stop. If the screen font was in a different colour for gas changes or if there was some other way to indicate that this is a gas change stop rather than a deco stop (a little triangle icon perhaps?) it would be more intuitive. Currently it is not intuitive to ascend when the computer is telling you to stay.
An explanation of this behaviour in the manual might be a good idea or a 'note' alongside CF55 in the Custom Functions PDF file would also help maybe?

Once you understand this behaviour it's no problem. But, new users shouldn't really have to search the forum to learn of it.

Best regards and thanks for a great dive computer!
