New Firmware and decompression model

Post by Goose_66 »

Hello everybody,

I am considering an OSTC N2 as my next dive computer and I was kind of surprised to see it is using Buhlmann or Buhlmann with gradient factors rather than moving to the newer models considering the gaseous phase in addition to the dissolved gasses.

So considering the proposal to move to the new 3.0 firmware (i saw a post a few days ago but it was mostly concentrating on user interface and custom values) I was thinking that implementing an additional decompression model (Variable permeability model with Boyle VPM-B or reduced Gradient bubble model) would really give an edge to the OSTC N2 on the rest of the crowd :)-D.

It would be the only computer having the choice between classic algoritms and up to date with research decompression model. It is also to be noticed that in a standard dive (no multilevel) Buhlmann with GF set at 30% 85% is very close to VPM-B with consevativism set at +2 in V-Planner (which uses VPM-B ). Liquivision X1 for example uses VPM-B (V-planner live implementation) as decompression model.

The main disadvantage in using Buhlmann vs VPM-B is we miss considering oxygen window effect (multigas environment) and effect on bubble formation and dissolution of yo-yo dives.

Any toughts on moving on bubble models and on the opportunity of only staying on a classic decompression model?

Thanks

Fabio

Sorry Fabio. Its been discussed. And HW has no intention of moving to another model and neither to implement two models.

Hello Hansjoerg,

got it and thanks for the link. As somebody elses said it is a pity.
DAN workshops (echo doppler researches on NDL dives) show that the gaseus phase in blood is always present after any dives.

The bubble model therefore might be more accurate.
I understand the computing power issue .... but I did think we might run int the FLOP/sec issue in a current generation microcontroller. Maybe there is a way to optimize computation ......

Wonder how is the computation rate on a SUUNTO HelO2 or Liquivision X1 compare to the OSTC N2.

Cheers
