wrong temperature and wrong time

Post by kurt.sys »

I have some small issues with the ostc, which now I'm very sure they the wrong values:
1/ The temperature given is always too high, about 3-5 degrees. I'm very sure about this, since all other computers give lower temperatures, and also biologically it doesn't fit - every year, there are sepia's in the 'Oosterschelde' when the water temperature us 12°C. They are there now, just, but according the ostc, the water should already be 15-16°C, which is really not the case. How to cope with this?
Also, but this may not be a real error of the ostc, I see that in every dive, I start at a certain water temperature, and it drops slowly, after 10-20 minutes to a more or less steady value. This seems wrong imho, since, the water temperature is not really dropping slowly. I wonder why the ostc gives the same (rather unrealistic) temperature profile.

2/ A second issue I have with the ostc concerns the time. When I don't dive for 1-2 weeks, the ostc is running behind the real time. It's a matter of minutes. I estimate that it runs 0.5-2 minutes/day wrong. How can this be solved?

Well, I have some doubts about the pressure sensor too (the ostc gives values that are too high, imho, but I didn't check that yet, so that's just a feeling so far). I have always the latest stable firmware version on the ostc, and the 'inconveniences' remain - I don't think it's a software problem.

Thx, Kurt

Reading the forum again, I realize that the time issue might be solved in next firmware versions (1.30 or higher)?
Well, in that case, the temperature issue is the remaining one...

Hey,

I'm just back from the Oosterschelde and the temperature is 14°C on my other computer.

Time isue is know and will be solved indeed

Pressure sensor is working fine, keep in mind that the oosterschelde is salt water and maybe you are comparing with dives you did before in a quarry

Hello Kurt,

The time problem is known to us. Some re-writing is required here which will be done in one of the next versions.

The temperature sensor is not very accurate, a difference of +/-1°C within to OSTC is normal.

Hey Steve,
Thanks for the reply, but I suppose temperture measurement should be right, no matter if you're diving in salt water or not :p. Anyway, the temperature thing remains a small issue, but I don't bother that much.

hehe of course

i was talking about pressure sensor and salt water. Depth indication is different. temp remains the same.
