OSTC broken?

Need a bit of advice I cannot get any computer to detect my OSTC MK2N it does not detect any com ports yet the device charges on the USB lead.

I have unistalled the drivers and reinstalled them but still no joy any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Have you tried another USB cable?
You have to make sure the cable is inserted all the way? With some USB cables the plastic on the micro side of the plug doesn't allow for the connector to be inserted all the way, causing an incomplete connection.

Hi,

and make sure to switch on the MK2!
It will charge in off but it will not connect in off.

I have tried a new cable even 3 different computers, but it does not pick up the com port but charges ok.

I think I will have to return it to be repaired under warranty unless anybody else has a suggestion.

Hi Luis,

We install the latest firmware, recharge and set date/time on every unit we ship. This also tests the USB port connection in detail. It's an unlikely error that it charges but does not connect if it has before. A cable error (We had this before a few times) or a connector that this is not fully inserted into the USB socket are the most likely issues.

Have you read the above mentioned forum entry?
What is the error message?
What OS do u run?
Have you tried OSTC Planner or Diving Log to connect to the ostc?
Do you have an 2N or an MKII?
Where did you purchase it?

Purchased direct
MK2 switched on
OSTC 3411 V2.21
No com port being detected yet charges ok I will try the OSTC Planner and Diving log but do not think it will make any difference as no com port is found.

Tried 3 leads now and 3 different computers installed drivers unistalled drivers ect, I know the drivers are working as I have a usb to serial port adapter with same chipset and that is detetced ok.

I will post my results.

As explained in the thread given by swissdiving and suggested by Matthias, you are not the first with such a pb : you can charge via USB but you can not connect.
Most of the time it is just a question of cable and especially the connector on the OSTC side : it fits enough to charge but not enough to establish a connection.

=> Try several cables and if none fits, cut the rubber scares of the connector on the OSCT side of one of your cable, it should help....

My "mauled" cable.

As per USB standard the power and ground pins connect first when the cable is inserted. I found that I had to force the connector straight for the data pins to connect, so I cut away a bit of plastic from the over-mould.

Result is that the data pins now connect without having to apply any force on the connector.

Silly, a question I didn't ask before. Louis r u using the cable that was delivered with the 2N by HW?

Hi,

We don't have our own cables and we have three different versions of cables we supply. There have been about 10 defective cables among several thousand we bought within the last two years. Just send us an email and we'll send you a new (tested) one.

Hello,

I have some problems with my MK2.

Indeed for a few weeks, some times it need to be connect to the USB to start, after it's ok during the dive.

Other one. today it write me the following message :

Reinitializing....1Fc&`qb.167 19 32 136 38 0 130 33 10 84 68.

Could you say me what it mean and is there a solution without send it back.
