OSTC 3 Com port not found issue

Hope someone can help with this!
I connect the ostc 3 via USB cable and open the companion, I see "starting ...done" on the ostc screen but when I click connect on the companion I get com port not found message no matter what number I put in for the port, I've searched this forum and consequently updated the ftdi drivers but to no avail.
Can anyone help?

Do not try the COM ports randomly. Find out which one is the right one (Windows Device Manager -> Serial Ports -> The one which is only available when the OSTC is connected -> THIS one is the right one).

If it's not detected from the Companion in the COM-Port drop-down field, you can enter it manually ("COMx") in the field there.

Hi Matthias,
thanks for the reply, i have replaced the usb lead for another and the computer does now show on device manager as "COM3" however, when trying to update via the companion I get several messages, "COM3 port not open" or "device is not an ostc3" or " unable to enter hwos service mode"

I just uninstalled the companion beta version and reinstalled the previous version 1.2 and it worked fine.
