Re: Gas Prompts?

Post by dmainou »

Hi Guys,

I believe that it is pretty standard to perform the gas switching procedures prior to swapping the gas on the computer. (i.e. the last step in the process is manipulating the computer rather than being the other way around)

Diving procedures are not in question.

The request is for greater simplification of the process to change to the adequate gas.

At present the user needs to press a minimum of 5 buttons to change a gas and more if that gas is at the bottom of the list. (menu, enter, menu, enter, menu until right gas is selected, enter

Any programmer will tell you that if you need to do the same systematic task several times you write a script.

I have proposed a method that requires the user to press only two buttons without preventing the user of accessing the rest of the menu. (i.e. you could select a different gas if the proposed one is not the best option or do anything else for that matter)

So, whether it flashes endlessly until you change to the proposed gas (CF) or not, the process to swap a gas could be greatly enhanced.

The benefits are pretty evident. It will enhance the user experience, reduce task loading and allow the user to enjoy a bit more of the dive.

Best regards

Hi all, I certainly agree that simplifying the button sequence to change gases would be a nice feature.

When I referred to the promt being a bad idea, I was referring to earlier posts about having a promt be displayed for a limited time - which I feel if the promt only lasted for a short time, then people may be tempted to switch it early to avoid the promt timing out.

On the other hand, if the promt lasted for too long, surely this would get in the way of other information being displayed on the screen.

Perhaps simplifying the button sequence for gas switching (once above the active depth) would be good, just without having an added promt - as the CF to have the gas flashing should be enough of a promt, if a promt is required.

Hello,

My suggestion (We're planing to release the 1.72 tomorrow):
- Unsuitable gases in red (#warning color)
- Exchanging "Decoplan" and "Gaslist" in the menu order
This will reduce the button presses a bit and will help finding the right gas.

regards,
