strange Mk 2 problem

Post by gordon mackie »

I was diving today - fresh water ice dive - 4 degrees and 6m max...Mk2 just went blank after 10 mins and would not switch on...came home and plugged in to PC and got orange LED flashing single and double flash and "Building MD2 Hash please wait" every few minutes...today's dive not in log and date etc reset to factory defaults... reloaded 1.5 and it loaded OK but still get Orange LED flashing a pattern of single and double flashes and no red charge LED lit.

Any clues?

thanks - Gordon

Hi Gordon,

Check if the USB bulkhead is dry. Several errors are displayed with the red LED, if in error mode every 15s a series of led pulses is emitted.

hi
completely blank..kept trying and briefly got a normal screen that flickered and died.. plugged back into PC and it has reset back to 02/08/09 again and random orange LED flashing again.. unplugged and screen flickered and died again...plugged in and getting double flash of orange LED and battery showing full charge...now back to random single and double orange flash

now shows double flash when on PC but when I unplug I get vertical lines flashing across the screen and battery symbol is at zero despite it being on USB for 4 hours
If it is relevant, this is the first time it has been dived (replacement unit following recall of my first unit)

Completely dead other than occasional flashes when not on USB to PC..can't get it to stay on for more than 10 seconds...now completely dead...no reaction to left or right button..cannot switch on at all - unit is dead

Next day - unit still locked and dead..but with solid BLUE LED..can't switch on when on PC or off

hi gordon,

maybe you should open the battery compartment and look if there's also a water leakage.

hello,

there is room to put a 3 O-ring on the USB plug.
I did it with a little silicone grease.

Not good news, i was hoping this problem had been rectified. I had been waiting for them to come back in stock at Deep Ideas, but now i think i will leave it a month or two to see if this is an isolated problem or connected to the recall.

I know it would be replaced quick enough (from reading others experience) but i don't want the hassle to be computer less for a couple of weeks.

I had a similar problem and the unit was replaced into a new one very quickly. According to Matthias about 40 units from December were affected and replaced for free.

Mine is fine now :)

Attached is a picture showing an alternative O-Ring setup for the plug (Easier removal). Three O-Rings are not required but if you'd like to add a third one: It's 10x1.8 FKM 80 A

30 mins at 48 metres - no problems

and with GF 85/15 it was a good match with my VR3

VR3 did first stop at 27, Mk2 was 21

VR3 was 11 mins at 6 and Mk2 was 13

So they work well together
